I contacted the makers of this app as once you view a topic you are subscribed to in the app, you don't get an email saying someone has posted a reply. They sorted it so it will be fixed in the next board and app update. :thumbsup

SE on your iPhone!

Postby bingoking on Mon Jul 12, 2010 1:59 pm

Just downloaded the app and this is my first post using it. Trying to upload a photo and getting same message as others. Would be useful to have.
Great step forward though, better than using Safari on iPhone.

Simple explanation to this

It's the same reason we have the big sticky in the Gallery telling you how to display pics properly on SE. We've severely limited the size of attachments you can upload as it's not a big corporate server we're on, it's a private setup. All the photos soak up disk space and give overheads we'd rather went to a site like Photobucket that is set up specifically to deal with it. You can add a photo as an attachment, but it doesn't display well and we'd rather you linked to a photo hosting site, TBH.

So for now, Tapatalk photo uploads won't work - the way to get photos on the site isn't to use the attachment function, but to use a photo hosting site. It's just a tech decision that's been made to help keep the forum rolling along as robustly as possible and to keep the database trim.

Cheers

Was using it but prefer the browser on my android phone.
My dog died today, I was thinking about getting one of those home cremation kits that I have heard about.
But I changed my mind £200K is a bit steep for a Ferrari.

I had a quick squizz and could not find a mass uploader that would use say pbucket. Just dumped my ffx photos on to fbook with <20 clicks, would be a pita to attempt it on SE. Hmm there must be a mod out there, will have another looky.

On my HTC Desire, the normal forum page displays very well and seems less of a hassle than tapatalk.

Mate, finding a mod and implementing a mod are two different things. Been speaking with Simon about this and there are quirks of our forum install that make mod application more of a pain than it should be - although the tapatalk one was simple. Campbell is now having a look at using some of his spare time to learn the back end of the forum too, as Simon's a busy man. By all means, have a butchers mate, but don't take it as read that if you find one it'll automatically get installed.

Still not getting emails saying someone has replied to a topic that I have subscribed to when using tapatalk, although the new app update has the facility to subscribe to the topic, so it may be that it hasnt been updated on the boards side yet?

I've been using tapatalk for a couple of weeks (got my first iphone - the new "death grip" :lol), and have to say it's rather good!

Suggested it to a couple of other forums I am a member of!
