Tut, Greg is correct. It matters not what value _you_ attach to a photograph, if the photograph was taken from another site without the owner's permission then it's wrong.
There are many reasons for the photographer to assert ownership - for example, they may be proud of their work and want others to know it's theirs, or they may wish to control how their picture is used (for example, they may not want it to be used in commercial material), or they may be concerned about the picture being doctored, ....
It's pretty simple really - if you're using somebody's work, ask them for permission and credit them (unless they ask to remain anonymous). If they don't give permission, don't use the photograph. If you don't know (and cannot find out) who owns the picture, at least put the source you copied it from into your work.
BTW, it's a nice idea to pull together a buyer's guide - probably find that there are already very good resources out there too - possibly worth somebody merging them all together one of these days (that's not to say they're all correct!). A quick google found this:

What do you think that we are doing with your precious photos other than showing them to our other members on here? Selling them to the Sun? If we know where the photos come from then we credit the photographer.
For fcuks sake chill out and take it in the spirit that it is meant.
