Well after three years owning this great wee car i think its going on the market. Loads of differant factors have lead to this but i think times up. Have loved being part of the Lotus family and would have def sold it long ago if it was not for SE,was worth it for Tut towers alone. I think its safe to say i will hire somthing from time to time for some of the bigger camping weekends so have not seen the last of me [or Davy] yet.Keep eyes on the adds.

Nothing lined up just now Duggie but thinking about a cheap 4x4 in prep for another white Xmas and snowboard taxi.Just not putting the miles on it that it wants.Have some other itches to scratch but i suspect this will not be the last Lotus i own. Anyway its a good example and will not be giving it away so may have it a while yet.

Over the past year or so, I've been keeping half an eye on early S2 prices in case I was to re-join the fold. But they've shot up considerably and I'm not prepared to pay more coin for a 50K mile 2001 model, than I paid for a 30K mile 2003 3yrs ago.... so have conceded that if I am to get back in one at some point, it'll probably be a VX.
Good for sellers though !!

How much did you lose on your first one? Buy wisely for the second and you may lose nothing, or very little. The only challenge, of course, is funding the outlay in the first place.

So in a way, it can be good for buyers too -)

Hi Campbell.
The yellow S2 135R, I lost about £1,500 on I think... which wasn't bad for 18mths ownership considering I bought from Mr Robertson.
The Aqua S2, I .. erm... made £1,200 profit... due to buying at a rock bottom price because of work needing done, and then doing much of it myself (although Ali did the 135 cams for me).
Can't grumble on the whole... but the days of picking up a 5yr old 30K miler for under £10K these days, (regardless of condition or colour) are well gone !!

You might find a "tired" S1 that you could bring back to its former glory though, and perhaps take some profit from. If you have the constitution for it

The wife was actually just saying the other day to me... "you should buy a cheap car that needs done up & get Drew (our youngest lad) involved... he'd love that".

Involving the younger generation is a brilliant idea, and whilst it has its foibles, there are plenty aspects of the Elise which make it a relatively simple car to work on...and at times a brilliant car to develop problem-solving skills!! Very rewarding to "get it right".

My younger, James, has been turning spanners on mine since he was 3. OK, hardly a skilled resource and it's mostly just fun, but I never had anyone around me to show me the basics when I was young and am instead learning the hard way at this latter stage in life. Imagine what I could have achieved if I'd learned earlier, LOL!

So I'm trying to involve him in suitable jobs - this weekend it's rear brake discs - for as long as he shows an interest. This might progress to him spannering his own push bike, broadly unsupervised, in maybe a couple of years, then if the mechanical mindedness continues, he can keep UJI on the road for me after that

Go on, find yourself a £7k Elise that deserves to sell for 8 or 9 and get cracking. You know you want to...and remember, an S1 saved is a way of putting something back into your community

yes an S1 is way ahead just finding a reasonable priced one that has glue in all right places there are some real dogs lurking about, and days of a bargain S1 are numbered so grab one quick.
