Jerez motorbike trackday trip - pics and vids

Post by mckeann » Mon Nov 14, 2011 10:57 pm

Hey folks,

Me and simon ironside just got back from Jerez after 3 days on track on our motorbikes. I've posted a few pics and vids onto SEBikers and facebook, but thought i would repost it on here for peeps who arent otherwise connected.

Jerez is no longer an F1 race circuit, but its used for winter testing for the cars, and is legendary amongst moto gp. I did it in a caterham in febuary, and finally got to go back and try it properly on a bike

Its a very wide track, very smooth, with a few gradients, but nothing too extreme. Lots of big scary fast corners to sh*t yourself at, a proper ballsy lap.

My best lap from the trip was a 2.00 flat

it didnt come easy though and had a few moments along the way

it was a big slide, had my arse up out the seat, my right foot off the peg and my right hand got knocked off the bars as it whipped back into line. Not 100% sure if my foot hit the ground or not, cant remember, all happened pretty fast. great fun,but i wouldnt like to make a habit of it :D

Very cool, and the slide was well recovered... :thumbsup

(I'd have left a few skid marks elsewhere, had it been me! )

The full lap looked quick & smooth - Where do the Moto GP lads find 20 seconds over that?! (Had a google to see what a comparable Moto GP lap time was - Lorenzo did a 1:39 last year...!)

It IS the apex, but i'd say more lucky than good. I have a few other pics, but i'm always within a foot of the apex

I reckon 12 seconds is in the rider, and 8 seconds is in the bike. The bikes have an extra 50-60 bhp. better electronics, tyres that only last 30 laps, 15k suspension instead of 1.5k and 5 engineers to look after it and make it better. i didnt twiddle with my suspension for fear of making it worse. Obviously the riders are fricking awesome too, which is why more comes from the rider than the bike

2 more videos with interesting new camera angles.

Will need to learn now how to splice all 4 camera angles into 1 awesome video, but that might take a while
