Netflix and NowTV
Netflix and NowTV
Anyone here used NowTV streaming service ?
Big fan of Netflix for streaming , wife and kids use it each day however my main complaint would be the lack of new content.
Enter unblock-us.com $4.99 (£3.20 ish) which allows you to region switch and access content from USA , Canada and a number of others. Canada is surprisingly good ! Still up to date content is not the best across the board.
I dislike Sky for many reasons but their NowTV monthly model is looking appealing.
Sky Atlantic and Disney channel access with the entertainment pack for £4.99 per month (£6.99 from May).
Can stream to any device (no PS4 or XBOX ONE app yet) or £9.99 for what looks like a re-branded dedicated Roku box. Roku boxes i have used in the past have been pretty flawless (obviously good bandwidth is important)
Can also plug in sport package and movies it seems.
I thought Skys days were numbered with the proliferation of steaming and the move away from annual subscriptions , seems i was wrong. Good on you sky .... if it works and they don't shaft us on price hikes !
Cheers
Scott
Ps recommend True Detective.

Re: Netflix and NowTV
We have Now TV as part of the Talk Talk package - - no issues, easy to use and we switch film subscriptions on and off depending on offers available and what we want to watch so we're not paying month after month for something we arent using.
Last offer was 6 months of film package for a total of £5 (83p a month!!) and currently 2 months for £2 per month.

Ok that is interesting. Good to hear, thanks for the feedback.
Re: Netflix and NowTV
There's a free and easy way to trick an Apple TV into thinking your in the USA by changing the DNS setting. I done it on mine to get the US content on Netflix whih in my opinion is much better than the UK version.

Re: Netflix and NowTV
Thats how unblock-us works, changes the DNS server region after you start using their DNS servers. Unlocks about 17 countries at the flick of a browser switch by selcting your region. You can deploy initial DNS change per device or on your gateway if using DCHP for all nodes. Works really well , no need to keep changing adapter settings, just use the browser to amend region.s29ttc wrote:There's a free and easy way to trick an Apple TV into thinking your in the USA by changing the DNS setting. £10 per day, i.e. £30 to cover a full race weekend. However, there was a promotion giving away day passes and they can be bought on ebay for £3 - 4 for each day. You can access it with a PC or tablet etc... as well.
Re: Netflix and NowTV
I have a NowTV box, but no NowTV subscription (I have used it in the past..).
As already mentioned, they are Roku boxes with cut down features.
The only real downside is that they only do up to 720p (but I think Sky HD only transmits in 720p anyway..)
The interface is nice and slick, the remote is compact, and well laid out, all in all it's a neat big of kit, especially for a tenner!
I use mine in developer mode with RARflix installed (google is your friend)
which allows me to stream from my PLEX media server.
It also allows additional 'channels' to be added on the server end, and displayed on the TV, though no ITV player yet..

Interesting hmmm. Got a Raspberry PI model B running XBMC. £25 for the PI , £8 for an micro SD card. Works a treat streaming from NAS's. No Netflix support though , push to PI (TV) appears on all my Andriod devices now which is great for showing off techCorranga wrote:

Re: Netflix and NowTV
NowTV - big outage at the week end during the Liverpool Chelsea match. Lasted more than 1 hour. Lots of unhappy customers paid £9.99 for a day of SkySports.
Re: Netflix and NowTV
Sky transmit 720p or 1080 i - which looks better would probably depend on your TV, although there is more information on 720p compared to 1080i )I think)Corranga wrote:

They are sending me a £10 voucher to use in M&S/Sainsburys/Asda by way of an apology. Fine by me , subscribed on outage day a hour before the occurrence. I hope the people that paid £9.99 for a day of sport got a better deal.scott_e wrote:NowTV - big outage at the week end during the Liverpool Chelsea match. Lasted more than 1 hour.
