Investors and car enthusiasts have the chance to own a part of a new British car company called Elemental, founded and run by a team of senior designers and engineers formerly at McLaren F1, Porsche, Lotus and BMW.
Elemental is seeking to raise £600,000 for a 26% share of the company through a crowdfunding round on SyndicateRoom.
They are creating a new range of lightweight sports cars designed for the track and road-driving enthusiast. The cars incorporate 21st century motorsport design principles, aerodynamics and materials. The first car in production - the Elemental RP-1 - will completely update the traditional idea of an occasional-use road and track car.

Duncan Bananatyne mode:
So you want £600,000 for 24%, that values the company at £2.3m.
Do you own the copyright for the new carbon design?
Do you have any orders?
Do you have any assets?
So you value what exactly at £2.3m?
Do you think that £2.3m is a realistic valuation for a start up company? Yes?!, well I think you're aff yer heid so I'm out............... good luck with it, (sleazy sarcastic smle)

.... but not enough.. the correct expression is "Ahmm Oot!"
We seem to be in another era of a lot of small sports car manufacturers having a go at making cars / making a business. Good to see, would be even nicer to see many of them make a go of it.

Think the car is featured in Evo this week.
Looked good but properly pricy (£60-80), and looks more than a bit like the Zenos E10.
Still hats off to them for having a crack!

I wonder what people said when some turnip farmers strapped a Honda engine to and old ladder and some scaffolding. A bit of face bending from Clarkson and they were set.

Re: Ex-McLaren F1 and Lotus designers crowdfund lightweight
There are two issues here that shouldn't be confused with one another - firstly the car itself, secondly the sanity of investing cash in a company like this. I have no comment on the car, but as an investment it's probably akin to picking 10 horses at random on an accumulator bet. What would your exit strategy be? What are the chances of the company making profits? None, and none ...

Can't disagree.
I love some of the details of the concept (quality carbon tub, aero underneath, engine configuration etc.) but I won't be re-mortgaging my house to invest.

Re: Ex-McLaren F1 and Lotus designers crowdfund lightweight
I did a trackday at Silverstone a few weeks back and these guys were testing a couple of their cars.
They looked like nice bits of kit and seemed to be going well (but having cooling problems apparently).
I think have some photos so I'll dig them out when I get time.

Re: Ex-McLaren F1 and Lotus designers crowdfund lightweight
I like it, looks good, has the right proportions about it, price is big but so is the spec.. they need to look at doing a more basic model imo, 240-250hp with a regular H pattern gearbox ,get it under 70k all in. A race spec sequential would soon piss you off on the road, no matter how infrequent you used it or how 'hard-core' you think you are!! Is it just me or in the first vid above does it look like he's having to dial in lots of turn on the steering to get it to go where he wants?
If you need to go even faster, just imagine you are me.
