That's such a bad section of road for a biker to have a crash. It's a huge straight, but densely lined with trees and very tall walls.

Tragic :(
Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......

A colleague is from the area and reckoned it was 'a red one'.

I thought he'd heard some Chinese whispers when he said the car burst into flames but that article suggests he was correct. :-(

No shortages of Lotus round here. It wasn't me, logged in to see if anyone knew who it was. I think there might be a red one in Aberlady though. Gullane facebook page doesn't know who it was.

Sounds like a Graigielaw GC member, if so My dad will know who it was so I will ask later.

I'll not publish the name though if I do happen to find out, not sure that would be the done thing.

Yes, they will have enough on their mind without being the subject of forum inquisition.

I think awareness of accidents like this is a good thing for the forum. Obviously without any inquisition as Robin rightly suggests.

I live close enough to this location to go through the area on an evening run or choose to go through on a day outing. Knowing about the incident meant I chose a different route. Out of respect, politeness, not wanting to upset anyone or not wanting hassle from plod, doesn't matter what the reason. Avoidance of such a horrible recent incident site with a related vehicle felt appropriate.

Sorry Dave - that wasn't what I meant - I am quite happy for this thread to be here; there is no reason not to discuss the fact that it happened - in fact we should discuss that it happened - we all know bikers and how vulnerable they can be and anything that makes people "think bike" is a good thing, even this tragedy, and we all know how easy it is to have an accident in an Elise (I do, anyway ;-)).

You know how it goes though - people start to analyse what happened and speculate on mistakes made by the parties involved - that can be very painful for those involved and thus best avoided IMHO.

Cheers,
Robin
