Swap with Jenson Button, he's got a 1600 Honda and would probably give cash your way

Dave, buy this, run for the winter, then pop the engine in your shed.

Me too - selling off the rest of the car would earn extre £ too.
Although I do think Elise's should be kept original. :blackeye

Note that I don't know the person, nor anything about the engine other than what the gumtree ad says.

The title of this thread should really read; "The K-Series engine, bought cheap, second-hand, with an un-known history, is sh*t. True Story."... but I guess that was too long so Dave had to edit it down a bit.

My K-Series still going strong, despite it's various owners. A sensibly tuned, cared for K will work perfectly (temping fate  ). Regular use also helps care for them IMHO.

Keep up... The cheap 2nd hand engine did 40k miles before a piston failed. It was great!!

We're talking about the professionally rebuilt one using the best parts available now. Sub 5k miles on it and maintained exceptionally.

It's luck as much as maintenance when it comes to the K. Not a matter of if but when it'll fail.

Not sure Dave's engine was cheap, second hand & with an unknown history? At least not since it was rebuilt.

Can we define well maintained? I'd say maintained per manufacturer's spec. In which case, given the anecdotal evidence over the years I'd question that there's nothing wrong with the K & it's installation.
