My K-Series still going strong, despite it's various owners. A sensibly tuned, cared for K will work perfectly (temping fate  ). Regular use also helps care for them IMHO.
Keep up... The cheap 2nd hand engine did 40k miles before a piston failed. It was great!!

We're talking about the professionally rebuilt one using the best parts available now. Sub 5k miles on it and maintained exceptionally.

It's luck as much as maintenance when it comes to the K. Not a matter of if but when it'll fail.

Ouch. It's stories like this that put me off tuning mine! What's a Honda conversion all-in? £7k?

Ok, so spill the beans! What went wrong with it?

I have a K20A2 in my shed waiting for a rebuild, that failed due to a big end bearing hitting the crank... They are not indestructable ;)

A good K20 conversion will still set you back the best part of 10K, sure do it yourself and it will be around 5-6 but that will be cutting corners.

Ive a complete S1 engine box loom everything thats needed for a weekend swap out. Its really low miles, like 17K or something, got to be a lot, lot cheaper and dare i say more reliable than a honda?

Granted just 120 ponies though.

There might finally be some truth in Dave's "standard K" claims if he goes this route.

N1 TUT around 200,000 Km, N3 TUT around 300,00 Km, all on road runs, trackdays, Scottish Championships, Stelvios, DP, SPAZZ, FF's, no commuting or shopping trips, engines and gearboxes never touched.

Reckon that is a testament to reliability.

Dodgy's standard K claims in the past have related to various steeds, some admittedly feral, that certainly didn't have the standard 118bhp - not that he'd confess to that

You box fresh one might actually have 118bhp, and be standard. :thumbsup

An nice sounding exhaust is £200 and the engine will go to the moon and back. Stick a charger on it for a few K and it will be quicker than a Honda :P

Visions of Jenson and Fernando tooling about with K-series engines (plus turbo and all the electric stuff, obvz). Fernando: "GP2 engine, GP2". Engineer: "Err, not quite Fernando, we're working on that still" :-) Jenson stops half way around for a pit-stop + head gasket.

Yep, you never came home on a trailor....

But Ill give engine and box reliabilty, still remember you forgetting you left her running with no water. It got so hot it stopped on its own, topped it up and she was none the worse for it!
