Has anybody changed their vote about independence??

Oooh that face!
Nicola Sturgeon: Voters rejected hard Brexit - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40252351
Does that mean she also accepts that voters have now also rejected Indyref2? Same logic really...

It seems pretty clear from my chair, sturgeon has said if it's hard Brexit then indyref is on the table, again open up the polarising decision chest again...
if it's a soft Brexit then let's discuss everyone's needs. SNP want a relationship with Europe and it appears a lot of the UK electorate do as well
I struggle to see why that is a problem?

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
I think the SNP don't actually care about Europe
They just want independence
It was made crystal clear in 2014 that an independent scotland would be outside of the EU but the SNP ignored this advice from the EU.
If they cared so much about staying in the EU they would of cancelled their campaign to separate from the UK.
That is the problem is they are demanding independence over a complete lie.

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
We could change the out the word Scotland for UK, SNP for Tory, 2014 for 2016, independence for brexit...
haven't we learned anything?

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
The problem is the definition of Hard / Soft / Open etc. Brexit. These are media generated terms that have no real definition outside the notional ideas about remaining part of the single market, customs union, European Court etc. The UK CANNOT remain part of these (outwith some transitional arrangement maybe) as it would also mean accepting other aspects of membership such as free movement and open borders.istoo wrote:It seems pretty clear from my chair, sturgeon has said if it's hard Brexit then indyref is on the table, again open up the polarising decision chest again...

The nats (who will use any justification) will call anything that doesn't meet their concept of a "soft" Brexit (many of which are unachievable, but set as a political trap) as "hard" and thus generating an excuse to hold another ref. The SNP will tread carefully from it now that they know the Indyref2 card is a major vote loser, so the only card Sturgeon has left really is that she can justify that a "hard" Brexit has happened. The recent GE election clearly demonstrated that the priority of most of Scots is not actually Brexit, but the UK.
I expect the see "independence" repackaged and sold back to Scots in a few years the same way as sub-prime mortgage investments of circa 2007 vintage - same sh*t, different box and sticker..

The difference is the tory party never wanted independence from the EUistoo wrote:We could change the out the word Scotland for UK, SNP for Tory, 2014 for 2016, independence for brexit...

They just wanted to play the hardman card while hoping to lose and get more freebies

Intersting article. So, hypothetically if the EU were to propose a place in Europe for Scotland and the Scottish Parliament managed to secure Indyref 2 how do you think an other referendum vote would go given that Scotland voted to stay in the EU by a considerable margin?

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
Depends on the 'deal' the UK gets itself I would think. I personally don't think the pro EU majority is quite as strong as the poll suggested in Scotland (there wasn't even really a leave campaign up here, just the odd ridiculed kipper), and I know people who just want out of both so would not vote back in. Given effectively a straight choice between the UK and the EU, I still think the UK would win.Mikie711 wrote:Intersting article. Plus the whole concept of leaving the UK to join the EU was always an oxymoron anyway. Add to that any vote probably wouldn't happen until after the next Scottish elections, and if things progress as they are, the SNP would loose further seats and thus their 'Yes' majority and ability to call for a second ref..

Re: Has anybody changed their vote about independence??
I feel we didn't actually get a vote in the EU referendum
We had our grand leader telling us that a vote for leaving the EU was a vote for scottish independence.
So effectively it was indyref 2
Seeing most folk really could not care less about the EU then many folk who would of voted to leave the EU voted to stay to make our grand leader happy and hope she might shut up and get on with running the country.

What a bizarre conclusion.
