ZZR VS R888R

Post by rawsco » Wed May 10, 2017 10:01 pm

I know the ZZRs are the defacto standard for the S2 Exige but are they worth a 170quid more a set than the Toyos?

Track and dry days.

Consensus is the zzr's last a lot longer than 888's. They are far better on track I found as the 888's can go off after a few laps. Zzr's don't.

On the road there won't be much in it with the 888's marginally better on cold days.

Both pretty rubbish on wet roads.

Am I the only one still using AO48's?
Seems the ZZR is more popular these days, performance wise how do ZZR and AO48's compare?

48R will always be better on a dry track, but 5mm as opposed to 8mm, so wet weather performance will deteriorate more quickly as it gets down to 2mm.

Personally I think the ZZR's were better than A048's on track too. They are a very hard sidewall tyre though with very little flex so you notice the harshness on the road.

Thanks, I'll look at the ZZR next time then. Although at my current 600 miles between MOT's I should be ok for a couple more years...

I've done plenty of wet road miles on ZZR's and never had a problem with them. They're not great in standing water though so I'm careful in heavy downpours.
They last well too, my fronts have done over 7k miles and 8 TD's! Maybe I should try harder

They don't feel great on track in the wet though, I fancy trying the ZZS's next, they're supposed to be better when it's wet.

Ive just ordered a set of ZZS from Wheelsaround for Frolic. Getting fitted next month. £200 ish more than AD08 but according to the reviews should last much longer.

Might go for the zzs as well... zzr aquaplaned at 50+ on the wet German roads and were almost undriveable on a wet spa.

Do you know if the ZZS are available in V6 sizes?

Steve

Edited to add.

I just checked and it's not.

I don't think ZZS's are available in S1 225/45/16 yet.
