Kerry and Thinforth suggestions are in the right direction I believe.

beware you don't overclean / over empty the tank, as then there will be less bacteria to aid the decomposition process along. At the moment it's just filling and trying to do that itself which will just fester away (reek)

I also looked at reed beds in early 00s but opted not too, liked the idea in principle. Don't have any operational experience with one though
