I guess strictly speaking not mainstream but does anything get close to a K series R500? What were they, 230 or 250?

Original K series r500 was a 1.8 at 230bhp, the evo model was 2.0 at 250bhp, I'm assuming the extra capacity was due to added bore.

You often come across people who will quote figures to you that you know are just not true. It was something I learnt quite quickly with the Duratec builds and with the latest 2.5L engine, the article seems like a transcript of my discussion with Ultimate performance. Only by maintaining torque to a higher RPM do you get more power. The way I think about it is the area under the torque curve has a maximum, but you can move it around. But as the article rightly says, there are limits and it's the quality of the components that let you push towards those limits.
