My Exige has been uninsured for the last 3 months ........

Post by a4drk » Thu Oct 19, 2017 9:56 pm

Tonight when I got in, I got a letter from the Motor Insurance Database telling my that my Exige wasnt on the register & i had to do something about it quick or id get fined.
So, immediately I called Footman James & they told me I never renewed it !
FFS......... they dont do automatic renewals!
so - got insured right away.

Why did it take the MID nearly 3 months to contact me ? surely this should happen within a week nowadays ?

Since the 29th July (Expiry date) - Ive been to Nethy Bridge, St Andrews, Glasgow twice, Amsterdam, Zolder, Hull - Oulton Park - Knockhill - 4 trackdays & nearly 2,000 miles with no insurance ! oops....

Do you not have to inform your insurance before each trackday or add European cover at all?

Glad you found out this way.

You’re lucky, having done all those miles to have avoided ANPR
You have to wonder at a business model that doesn’t encourage existing customers to spend essential/ legally required recurring £ with them :?

On the plus side, it saved you a few quid.

Hmm, I'm the opposite, policy on one of our cars auto renewed when I didn't think it did and I had already bought another policy. Only found out when I phoned to get no claims proof.

To make it worse the policy I did take out I had 1 detail wrong and they wanted an extra £1300 so cancelled that one too.

So last week I'd shelled out £3700 for 3 separate policies waiting for a refund on 2.
Ironically the final policy was with Admiral, the same company that auto renewal was with but £450 cheaper :scratch
:scratch

Really surprised you didn't get caught with ANPR there must be some untruths on the web if you managed 3 months with no problems.

Does the ANPR only pick up the front reg plate ?
My front reg is smaller than normal- wonder if that’s got something to do with it

That’s odd, I’m with footman James, (previously CCI) and they want 2 days notice of an upcoming Trackday. Will cover Euro track too.

Was slightly caught out last year with the non auto renewal too.

I would be surprised if modern ANPR isn’t fine with smaller plates. It certainly works on carparks etc.

I had the same issue due with CCI and ran unknown without insurance for 5 months. They had auto renewed the previous year and even sent me a ‘leave it and we’ll renew’ But then their policy guidelines changed and they never renewed and chose not to tell me.

Regarding ANPR, its possible you dont fit the profile for someone that is likely to avoid taking out insurance i.e the alerts are received by police vehicles but possibly ignored ?

They probably get a lot of false positives, national insurance database has a lot of ingress points. I am Intrigued to find out what failed here :scratch

Regarding not renewing your insurance, dont understand how its possible to forget ! ... but then i budget every £ a year in advance ... in detail ..... /anorak faction :leave

I'm sure in the past Competition Car Insurance or one of the similar specialist insurances didn't seem to update the relevant system so often looked like you had no cover
So make sense about triggers being ignored for certain car types, since we are all well off and upstanding citizens

I've got Andy's ipetrolhead phone app as a few others have to highlight mot, insurance, service dates
Although at moment can't seem to add any more cars to it, can add details and hit save but it doesn't appear, anyone else have this problem ?

I’ve been with Footman James for the last 3 years - renewal came in and never thought anything of it - I just assumed it would auto renew - obviously not
