Full respray costs on an S2 Type 23

Post by Type23 » Fri May 26, 2017 9:33 am

I've owned my Type 23 for about 8 years or so now and over the course of that time the body work has taken a battering. Because it's had a couple of winters out in the elements there is bubbling under certain panals and I spun the car and ended up in a ditch as well so the rear needs some work (not massive damage) the front of the car also has the usual stone chips as well as a crack from an extra high speed bump. After much deliberation I think it's worth getting the car fully resprayed. It's a Type 23 so would be looking to have it done in the same colours. Does anyone have any experience of full resprayed? Could you give me rough ideas on costs and where's best to use? I don't mind travelling within Scotland to have the work done. Cheers

Full respray costs on an S2 Type 23

I've been a regular at Steve Walker Bodyshop, Bathgate, for 25 yrs.

Protek, nearby in Bathgate, also considered very good too.

Willowbrae in Edinburgh have been Lotus specialists a long time too BUT it's very important you deal through Craig Moncrieff Cars to access their services efficiently (let's just say...)

It'll look smashing when done :-)

Mine also needs 18 yr old bodywork refreshed but mechanical priorities have to come first sadly.

I had mine done by Jamie Mullen in PortSeton, (Ex MMC) all bubbles and cracks addressed and repainted.. I have to take some credit for the finish as I bought a DA and refined the finish and polished it with products recommended by polished bliss for silver (Menzerna and Carlack kit).

A realistic budget depending on the amount of repairs required would be circa £3000-£3500 would be my guess, hard to say what mine cost as I had a good load of extras done like a short roof conversion, grills, HID's etc.. No repairs were showing through over a year later so all good! I get Jamie to do all my work and he just did a great job on a mate's 350Z too. Worth a drive down for a quote as could well be less...

Thanks for the replies. I did reckon I'd be close to £3k plus for the work to be done but I guess it all depends on how much prep they say needs done. With the car being limited edition I do think it would be worth the money to have it done as technically it's pretty sound.

+1 for Protek Bathgate. Did full respray of my Europa from blue to Lamborghini Orange and latest work has been on my Evora. Always top quality work.

Just had a chat with Jamie Mullen who has said he'd need to see the car to give a cost as it depends of how many blister repairs are needed but he had spurted off a price of £2.5-£3k off the top of his head but he'd really need to see it.
