misfire

Post by BiggestNizzy » Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:46 pm

I have been getting all the water in the plug bore symptoms (not suprising given the weather) is there anything else that would give they syptoms (missfire) ? the last time it did it the plug bores where swimming but now they seem dry and the HT leads are not coming up wet.

Is it worth replacing the HT leads ?

Check what's happening inside the distributor cap too ... pay attention to the "carbon" brush thingmy that sits in the middle of the cap.

Run it in the dark and look for blue flashes.

Cheers,

This morning she just wouldn't start :( she half wanted to but just wouldn't I checked inside the plug bores and they seem damp but are not swimming in fluid.

I had the engine covered in a sheet of plastic over night to try and prevent anything happening :(

Try getting an assistant to turn it over at night - it there's any component tracing or arcing it should be easier to spot.

Obviously you want it as dark as possible, but with light on hand :)

I was going to change the plugs and leads today but I noticed gunk in the 1st and 3rd plug bores that I am struggling to get out (don't want it to fall in).

I also noticed that they are a bit black, that would suggest I am running rich. I knew I was 6 months ago when I changed the lambda would that have cleared itself or is it from then ?
