Rev counter and speedo stopped working..

Post by Evoman » Tue May 09, 2017 8:47 am

...Just all of a sudden stopped working. WTF? !

Parked up after rather splendid drive to Applecross. Started her up again a few hours later and noticed no revs om the rev counter and no speedo!

What a drive though. The little Lotus has been epic

They are fed from different sources as the speedo is the left rear wheel speed sensor.

Common cause is a low voltage battery but this does not seem to be your cause. You could try the reset procedure but that is normally for sticking needles. Open the drivers door, trip reset switch held for 3 seconds, then ignition on.

Robin would normally come on at this stage but someone should be able to pin point it for you.

It's happened to me a few times.
Try disconnecting the battery. Wait a few seconds, then reconnect.

I had something like that after washing the car (no instrument lights, needles either 0 or randomly waggling around), but it went away of it's own accord. Put it down to water ingress somewhere, but might have been coincidence.

Thanks guys.

Well I turned the ignition on the following morning and all working as normal again and has been since :)

It must've objected to being moved from the Applecross Inn car park with such nice views.
