Post by 111Rxpress » Tue May 19, 2009 2:05 pm

This thread will show the step by step process of the detail I am doing to my own car. This part will focus on the wheels, arches and brake calipers.

Some general views of the car....

Some closer images of the wheels and state of the calipers

The wheels are removed and typically looked like this all round

Image

Snow foam, left to dwell and Power washed.

Image

Cleaned using Megs APC, Tar remover and various brushes.

Image

Image

Tyre wall scrubbed with APC 4:1 to remove any old dressing

Image

On to the area behind the wheels which all looked much the same as this...

Image

Cleaned with APC10:1 & 4:1,Strong wheel cleaner solution for the Aluminium parts, Tar remover, various brushes...

Image

Tar dissolving..

Image

Image

Calipers rubbed down and prep for paint with Japlac

Image

after paint calipers.Any yellow painted areas treated with Autoglym EGP as were the alloys- two coats.

Image

Image

Closer images of the brakes. The excess paint on the discs was removed with a very sharp blade

Image

Also painted my nuts black after a good rub with some wet n dry paper and wire brush

Image
(okay they are bolts but thats not as funny!) :D

Exactly the same process front and other side also.

Rough looking caliper

Image

Front caliper prep

Image

Cleaning process and removal of mud flap

Image

Image

Front wheel sealed and tyre dressed ready to go back on with fresh black bolts.

Thats the write up for wheels tyres and calipers finished and will return with the paint correction story later. thanks for reading.

I know it's your business, but sheesh!

Do you get pleasure from cleaning generally, or is it just cars you enjoy? Do you wanna come round and do my house? :P

You have PM.
I am always happy to speak to my fellow-lotus owners about their requirements for car cleaning/details. Not everyone needs or in fact wants a "wheels off" style paint correction detail that this car will get, but it depends on how you use/show your car.

Wow! And I thought Dezzy was bad, he doesn't quite go to the lengths of taking the mud flaps off. I'm sure he will next time after seeing this though

Have to hand it to you, that REALLY IS CLEAN! If mine was that clean I'd need a second, identical car to use as I couldn't bear to drive it.

Do you need an MoD licence for the chemical warfare arsenal?
