There should be more Elises/Exiges competing in SLS. As can be seen by the times set by Andrew Bairds Exige, they can compete with the high power Impreza, EVOs etc. and I think they would be very competitive in the C, D and E classes.

That Exige isn't exactly standard. :D

It is surprising though that there aren't more in the lower classes. Maybe the basic car cost is higher for something that you would track?

Its an S2 Elise with hard top isnt it?

Cost - higher than 997 Turbo S, 997 4S, M3 CSL, 456 Itallia, GTR etc (top end of cars that have competed)...

I dont think cost of car really comes into it. Its not door to door racing so any car that would be used for a trackday (plenty of Loti) would fit it so to speak.

Brian Ronald was at Round 1 in his LF1 (Class D). Craig McCready competes in his turbod'd VX220 (Class C).

Elise costs more than 997 turbo and Ferrari 456/8?

SLS Round 2 and 3

It would be interesting to hear from some of the chaps ( and chapesses if applicable) who competes at the 'occasional' end of the spectrum. Motorsport always sounds scary expensive, would be nice to have some real world experience to understand how one could approach it. :-)

Andrew Bairds car is far from an S2 with a hard top

Get involved Ferg, everyone thinks it's a bit daunting before they start. Competing in time attack is one of the best ( and most expensive ) decisions I have ever made. SLS will be a really good starting point with a lot less travel costs than TA. Feel free to fire away any questions.

I may do an event this year. Will probably try and actually drive the car 1st

Could be wrong Ferg, but think you can do SLS with a road car - get in amongst it with the mini GT car!

Absolutely you can enter with a standard road car, Class is hp/weight which puts you in a good position.

I may like idea of it more than paying for it. :-) if my normal procrastination patterns are observed I have a good long time yet before I look at it with any seriousness... :-)

You are not wrong there :O, but I was meaning that its not an Exige... i.e its an Elise with a hard top. Not 'its just a standard Elise with a hard top'

It's not an Elise with a hard top. It started out life as an Elise but has had an Exige body fitted which is wider, that's certainly the case with the s1
