B Service

Post by james » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:55 am

Chaps, I know theres a couple of threads recently about servicing and where to go, none really covered what I need I hope someone can assist with my questions. I got the car at MMC a couple of months ago its now due its first B service. I got the extended warranty.

Do I need to go to MMC?
How much is a B service?

Graeme said I need the cam belt chenged at 4 years (i.e around now) is this correct and if so how much does this cost?

Sounds like Im in for a few quid here, but I dont want to invalidate the warranty or spend a bloody fortune. Any suggestions welcome.

You do NOT need to go to a main dealer to keep a manufacturer warranty. If you've got an extended warranty, is it from Lotus or Murrays? If Murrays, check the wording...

There are options for you, which don't involve the 4 figure sum it will be to have the belt changed at Murrays.

1. Go to Judes Performance Services in Newcastle (nothing but glowing reviews so far)

2. Go to Falkland Performance in Glenrothes (one report from Neil of them doing work that wasn't cleared & not doing up a hub nut right, but many other recommendations)

As for costs - I don't know Falkland off-hand, but Dan from Judes posted this:

Standard rates are as follows:

A Service - £140
B Service - £230
C Service - £450 (+40 for VVC cars)

All prices include VAT

The C service will probably be worth doing (most of the cost differential is the belts anyway) For comparison, MMC charge approx £360 for an A service

Thanks Shug, looks like a trip to the Metro Centre is on order. The wording of my policy (bought at the time from MMC) says to keep the vehicle serviced at an authorised repairer according to the manufacturers service schedule. But the "we" "ours" "us" is defined as Lotus and if the OFT have relaxed the law relating to using main dealers it sounds like Im ok.

Thanks for the comments. Car is booked into Judes for late Sept. £390 for the B service and cam belt change. Sounds absolutely reasonable to me. :D
