Another Lotus component fails..(pic)

Post by CSK_423 » Thu Feb 15, 2007 9:26 am

on the way to work this morning took a left hander as I do every morning ! I went to straighten up and nothing happened !!! result ended up me being parked side on into a hedge managed to drive it out ok, low speed nudge into a hedge row means some fibre glass repairs, new steering rack and the shocker needs done asap ! Limped over to the folks with the car jumping all over the place not a happy chappy

Glad it wasn't at higher speed mate and that you're okay! Hope you get it sorted without too much expense.

Can a steering rack really just fail like that?

I had experienced it for the past few days and put it down to the greasy roads ! (More fool me !) As I put the right hand down to straighten up, the steering wheel moved with little resistance, the direction of the car continued left. As I frantically turned further in a hope it would bite, it did, but by that time it was too late and I was already on the verge/in hedge.

My father in law pulled up around 30 seconds later to which his guesstimate was "you were going too fast son" As I bit my lip and followed him up to an in shot to inspect the damage, he realised I couldn't keep the car in a straight line much and conceded that maybe I wasn't going too fast !!!
