Re: Anyone got experience of lengthy car repairs?

No experience either sorry. Can you go see the car before you take it home or it's delivered to you so you can check out the interior etc? Will the garage be putting it through its MOT prior to returning or do you need to do that. I know the MOT will only pick up basic stuff. What about getting an A...

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

Just realised this thread started over ten years ago :o It makes sense to have better grip and braking especially now I'm carrying precious cargo rather than just myself. I picked up a suzuki swift sport so will see how I get on with the skinny wheels but will also price up some winters for it now!

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

I’ve never changed tyres for winter and never knew of anyone to do it growing up. However, I’m seeing more folk talk about buying winter sets. Is it a new thing or have you guys always done it?

Re: (NLC) Need a runaround

Hi All. My 11 year old 3 series bimmer had sudden bottom end engine failure (spun a bearing) and it wasn't economical to fix it. The cheapest was £5K for an engine with 89K miles on it from a scrappy plus the work for out/in and new clutch and all the small stuff just wasn't worth it. On the plus s...

Just spoken to him and he p/x the car when he got the new one.

Best of luck in your search 😉
Thanks for asking!

I do enjoy looking for cars and there was no way the better half would have been happy with me changing cars after buying the S1 :D

Re: (NLC) Need a runaround

My mates son (located in Edinburgh) may well be selling his Golf. If I remember correctly it is a Mk5 1.4 TSi but had a load of welding done but don't know the mileage. If its of any interest I can give him a shout and put you in contact with him? Happy to pass my email/ number and take a look if i...

Or, if not daft money to change, either factor into budget or knock it off price. Then get chain done by your own trusted workshop for peace of mind.
Pretty expensive (~£1000) but if the car price is right then a possibility. :thumbsup

Re: (NLC) Need a runaround

I’ll check out the mini’s!

Yeah I would go for a Mk5 as well. Seems to be the timing chain is a common issue so would be good to find one with a recent replacement.

Re: S1 parts to hoard??

The switches are tough to come by if yours are beyond repair, prob what I found hardest to source if trying to keep OEM I’ve got a load of parts left over from the conversion I should probably sell, if you need something just ask I've read the switches can get a lot of debris behind them and can st...

Re: S1 parts to hoard??

Thanks Campbell, that's helpful!

My steering rack has already been refurb'd so this might be one for me to keep an eye. Not bulky but not cheap from Eliseparts.

The car hasn't been in to Craigs yet but think I'll use him for the next service/ MOT.

S1 parts to hoard??

Seeing the recent thread about MMC brake parts no longer being manufactured are there any parts that S1 owners are storing long term in case this happens? I have a set of front indicators but nothing else. I want another set of wheels, just for aesthetics, and have been in contact with Revolution Wh...

Re: S1 Audi Elise

That’s looking awesome! Showed the picture to my 5 year old and he said he liked your car more than mine[emoji22] I can’t really argue with that opinion though [emoji23]
