Re: Tesla Model 3

They are only banning new ones. You can buy a 1L on the eve of the end of sale and keep it for 10 years ;-).

Re: Hamil7on

Exactly Campbell. Perez is one of those divers that seems to cope with the car however it's set up. I expect he will keep Max honest at the very least.

Re: Tesla Model 3

They plan to allow them if they are hybrid, so I would expect all these 1l petrol engines to become hybrids. Toyota already has an excellent hybrid in this class, I imagine the others do too. Plenty of time for hydrogen fuelled cars to come along if it turns out that 15 years isn't enough to get the...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I think battery costs are falling pretty fast now. I don't know at what point a Fiat500 EV is going to be cost neutral vs the petrol version though. Probably half that - like $50/kWh. That's going to take a long time to hit. But the Model 3/BWM 3/A4 kind of territory is going to be cost neutral much...

Re: Hamil7on

The reason Mercedes did so well in this engine era is that they tipped a lot of money (I want to say beeellions, but not sure it's quite that much ;-)) during the last season before the hybrid engines came in. Probably by some mix of solid engineering and luck they hit upon the right arrangement of ...

Re: Hamil7on

Well we will see. Perez will be a reliable measure. My guess is that Max will beat Perez but not in the way he has dominated his previous team mates. I think Max is properly talented but of course he was also born into racing which helps. As usual, the only thing that matters is where you finish on ...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I don't think it is battery heating after all. I think it only heats the batteries when on charge and when you've remotely turned on the climate control. Whether it is the motor windings or the ambient air heat pump to provide the heat who knows! Either way it will use some energy to get the job don...

Re: Hamil7on

Hamilton will be back driving this weekend it seems. I am amazed he can be arsed! Even though he has recovered from COVID in the sense of testing negative, I cannot imagine he is at full fitness!

Re: Tesla Model 3

The overnight power loss might be down to needing to heat the batteries, depending on how cold it is where you are parking it. I don't know for sure how this works, and probably it is different in the model with the heatpump, but somehow or other they need to keep the batteries above approx 0c and t...

Re: 2030 - No more new ICE

Commercials (big diesel lorries, etc) will go hydrogen for the long haul I think. BEV is challenging in that application. Battery degradation is a real thing with some horror stories out there, but I think the reality is better than the early models would indicate. Typical degradation on Tesla Model...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I think all sports EV are tyre limited to 60mph. So around 2s will be the norm 😳. The big problem is getting enough battery to deliver 1000bhp for any length of time ... That's 750kW. The battery pack might be 100kWh. So you get 5-10mins and then it's empty 😁

Re: Elise S3 supercharger boost leak - repair/replace/upgrade

I am afraid I don't have any input on alternate charger. Given the tight integration with the intake and alternator I would be surprised if there are other generic chargers that work. For sure the hangar111 etc of this world would sell them if they did exist. I would be tempted to dismantle and see ...

I lost the email address that was the list owner. I tried to reclaim the list from Yahoo but they wanted me to send copies of passport and stuff like that by post. I wasn't bothered enough to continue...

Anyway looks like they have sorted it for us now 👍

Re: Tesla Model 3

We've had no issues to complain about - just lucky I guess. Compared to all the Lotus + the XC90 that I've owned, it's been fault free, even at the niggle level. No doubt something will break at some point soon! Biggest hassle we've had is that the Gretna services super charger is pants, half out of...

The Tesla guy told me their charger want eligible for the grant. We use the 3 pin mains plug which is fine.
