Re: Winter Shed for Mr Momo
How about a Suzuki Swift? Lightweight / nimble - Not quick (90bhp) but I’d imagine still amusing to drive. 50+mpg and cheap insurance. They make a 4x4 version (albeit a Haldex type setup) in the top SZ4 trim spec (climate / cruise / bluetooth / keyless entry etc) I.e http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-...

I was all set on ordering, but wobbled at the last minute and bought an ICE Golf instead. Our issue was that it would be our only car, and while...

Re: Elise - we Salute You
On securing my first proper job in 1998, I made a short list with a budget of up to £18k to buy a sportscar. On the list were an E30 M3 / Porsche 964 RS and an Elan SE Turbo (at that time E30 M3's were £7-8k for a nice one; 964 RS's were £18k) - I plumped for the Elan SE at £13.5k and that was the s...

Re: Anyone bought a new car recently?
Had a bit of a car epiphany over the past 12 months - Much as I loved my V8 barge, it had cost me somewhere around £4-5k in maintenance / running costs over the year and spent much of the time sat mouldering in the driveway. Nearly as cool as the Avantime, loved that car. Malcolm I quite enjoyed th...

Re: Stratos Scotland Tour
IIRC, all genuine Strato's were left hand drive?
And interestingly - or not - it's "Strato's" rather than "Stratos" - As per the badge on the rear:

Which uni is he going to?
He'd get an interesting reaction cycling that around Glasgow / south west coast of Scotland (or even Aberdeen, come that matter

Also consider some of the cheaper Swatch group brands - Hamilton & Certina. I'm still really happy with my Hamilton Khaki Auto - Valjoux 7750 movement (as fitted to much more expensive stuff - Breitling / Panerai / Omega etc, albeit decorated / tweaked and in COSC form) and has a decent metal & leat...
