Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

Also stops your fancy (probably diamond cut) summer wheels getting wrecked by the salt 🙄

Like Campbell said, I first used winter tyres on a rwd BMW during the winter or 2010 (having not been able to take it out of the garage the previous winter!) and have done so on all my cars since.

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

eBay's also good for genuine wheels. I got a set of brand new ones from Germany for about 40% of what they'd cost here. Mine came from this seller but there seem to be a few who do it https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/penzv Cheers Neil- bought genuine used winter wheels for the BMW from a similar seller o...

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

Just swapped the OE Hankooks for Cross Climate 2s on our Mini last week.
Never rated the Hankooks despite them doing well in comparison tests.
Michelins seem an improvement so far.

That site for genuine wheels is a good find though, I just assumed the dealer was the only place for genuine wheels.

Re: Anyone bought a new car recently?

As mentioned in the winter tyre thread, we’re one less member of the Skoda appreciation society now. Our Octavia vRS which we bought new in April 2011 died on Feb 22. High pressure fuel pump disintegrated which left it beyond economical repair. Had to find a replacement in a hurry and since I now ha...

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

Lol, snap, then! Except for the Skoda demise [emoji22] They do say that fuel pump failures can be terminal. Seems extreme though. How long had you had it overall then Steve? Longer than us I reckon !! What spec of MINI? Had the Skoda from new in April 2011 and it died Feb 2022 so about 6weeks short...

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

I took the plunge and bought cross-climates for the Skoda in January 2022. Did about 300 miles on them and then 2 weeks later the fuel pump disintegrated leaving the car beyond economical repair so didn’t really get a feel for how good they were. Replaced the Skoda with a MINI but the OE Hankooks ar...

Re: Lotus UK Makes Agency Model Retail Switch Ahead Of Emira Deliveries

Thanks gents, that makes it clearer. Can’t imagine there was any serious discounting or undercutting going on with Lotus sales previously but it’ll be very interesting if mainstream manufacturers go that way. Presumably that’s the Mosel Tesla use- might we see more ‘high street’ stores for more up-m...

Re: Lotus UK Makes Agency Model Retail Switch Ahead Of Emira Deliveries

Any idea what any of that means?

I mean, I've read the whole article and I'm still none-the-wiser, other than the fact that dealers will be getting new signs and that there should be a dealer in Edinburgh and Aberdeen opening soon.

Re: Leccy cars

Had an i3S as a courtesy car today and thought it was really brilliant. The one pedal driving felt strange for about 10mins but oddly it felt even more strange going back to my car at the end of the day and not slowing down as soon as I lifted off. A few things required a total rethink of attitude i...

Re: Churchill - oh yes

Anyone noticed an increase in minimum excess recently? I always set my voluntary excess to £0 and take the standard excess which is normally £150-£250. Insured my 335d last week and noticed that compulsory excess with some companies was £700! Couldn't find anybody who would insure me with a compulso...

Leccy cars

Just joined the “Leccy” brigade today. Picked up the BMW i3 in Dundee, after the drive back to Aberdeen showing I still have I’ve 80 miles left. Quite impressed as this was with a fair bit of spirited bouts of acceleration as the pick up very impressive. Its mostly for daily/ golf duties so I don’t...

Re: Anyone bought a new car recently?

What were the issues causing you reject the Golfs Ian? Did you discover the first one had been remapped or something? I must admit I’ve bought remotely a number of times previously and never had an issue but I bought my new BMW remotely in October and it wasn’t as great an experience. Having it deli...

Re: New Series Of Top Gear

The dads car section was absolutely fantastic and quite poignant. When Harris was talking about remembering the clocks and typeface on the 323 it really resonated with me. My dad had a mk1 Golf GTI that he must have sold when I was 4 or 5. I don’t remember anything about the car really but I vividly...

Re: Secret features in cars

I just found the split screen function on iDrive. Have to say, as someone who's never used it before it's an excellent system, much prefer it to the touch screen system that was in the Golf... Not constantly cleaning off fingerprints is a bonus too!* *I know it's also touch screen but no real need ...
