Re: Cylinder Head

Got the car back and have been taking it easy for the moment. It seems to be behaving itself the same as before but running a few degrees higher than before. In the past it would sit at 88 and go quickly up to 93 in traffic. Now sits 89/90 and up to 95. Could this be a consequence of a new thermosta...

Re: Cylinder Head

Also I looked at AA Parts and Labour and it says that it must be serviced at an appropriate garage does that include independent specialists who are VAT registered? And would the work also be covered if taken to someone such as SLS or SPS?

Re: Cylinder Head

Cool - thanks for all the advice again. I guess maybe I should have taken it somewhere else but unfortunately I broke down fairly near Murray and was in a rush to get to work. I have learned my lesson! Anyway the current situation is that they are waiting for parts and the car should be ready for Mo...

Re: Cylinder Head

The latest news is that the current head is still good - it has been pressure tested and is fine. I asked about the liner heights and he said they were something 'thou' so I guess that's positive. He also said that the pressure test being fine was a good indication that the liner heights were okay -...

Re: Cylinder Head

Thanks Rich, Nizzy(?) and Robin. I will definitely be looking to source one myself if he comes back to say it is porous.

The liner/block heights issue - if I ask them to check this what response should I get?

MC

P.S. I really appreciate the advice from everyone :thumbsup .

Re: Cylinder Head

Thanks for the advice Robin - I will definitely ask if they know why it failed and if the liner heights are okay. The quote I have at the moment is for everything rebuilt and includes the removal and skimming of the head, all labour and parts. The guy said that this would be the price unless the hea...

Re: Cylinder Head

As a Lotus Specialist will MMC be likely to do al this? The guy did mention that this price included a number of tests on pressure and other stuff. If not - what am I paying for? Should I ask what the failure mode was?

MC

Re: Cylinder Head

I too lack the mechanical knowledge to back this up at all. I tend to trust what I am told and put together bits and pieces of info in an attempt to make sense of it all. The car is with MMC who I went to as a result of the good feedback that had been on here for them recently (they fixed my suspens...

Re: Cylinder Head

I am guessing the head needs skimmed because it warped in the overheat? The price is considerably higher than that and includes; water pump, timing belt, spark plugs, oil, coolant, skimming, 12 hours labour and some other things I have forgotten.

Cylinder Head

Some of you might have read my poem (may have started something there!) about the HGF I suffered on Tuesday. The head is now off and gone to be skimmed but the guy said something about the head maybe being porous or cracked and needing replaced. I was just wondering how likely this is - as the cost ...

Re: Feedback Required - "Murray Motors" thread merged

Just put Elise into Murray for shocks all round. I would say it was a reasonable price (SE discount :thumbsup ) and the car was looking immaculate afterwards. Customer experience was very positive - had excellent service from Fraser and good communication throughout. This is the first time I have be...

Re: Suspension possible clunk?

Did not feel anything through the steering.

If it is the ARB Bushes is there an easy way to check that?

Thanks

Suspension possible clunk?

This morning I thought that maybe there was more of a pronounced clunk than usual coming from the front driver's side suspension. It was the same sound as normal but just seemed to attract my attention. I did hit a couple of bigger bumps (deliberately) to investigate and now I am paranoid. I also ha...
