Re: trickle charging battery

Went forthe Accumate through Elise Parts - incredible service - ordered using their standard mailing costs (about £2.50) on Friday and it was with me Saturday morning. I wired up the permanent connectors as this will save me having to faff around with the croc clips every time I want to charge it - ...

Re: trickle charging battery

Cheers for this. looks like the one for me. I see elise parts stocks these so will get one from them. I take it the "o rings" are big enough to slide over the bolts that hold the terminals on the battery ? Also it would seem that there is no need to disconnect the terminals when charging? I seem to ...

Key wont start car

I have noticed that when I try and start my car I need two or three attempts before the starter motor will spin the engine. I put the key in the ignition, press the button on the key, the red light on the dash goes out, but I just get a "clunk" from the starter motor. Repeat this a couple of times a...

Re: S2 Elise K series - Engine "falters"

Well my engine had 4 leads that where replaced and 4 spark plugs? Yup, that will be the EU2 VVC arrangement, where the coil packs are mounted on the block, rather than the cyl head :thumbsup Nice one took of engine cover and disconnected HT leads. Ends were corroded and green Bit of sandpaper and s...

Re: S2 Elise K series - Engine "falters"

All the EU3 engines have the twin plug top coil design, where you have a coil pack that sits directly over a plug and an HT lead that connects it to its secondary cyl. Not like the vag and other engines that have a single coil per plug and no HT lead to speak off. Cheers Steve - a few questions. Ho...

Re: S2 Elise K series - Engine "falters"

S2s are all coil packs on the engine top. Might be the first signs of one on the way out. Pretty sure you can rev past six on the standard K, given that peak power is at 6.5K, redline is 7, is it not? Check everything in the ignition system (plugs, connectors, etc) before thinking the worst. You ar...

S2 Elise K series - Engine "falters"

I have a S2 with standard K series engine and standard exhaust. 23K miles and all very clean. Runs very well, but when accelarating resonably hard through 3500 - 4500 revs the engine oftens gives a minor falter. It is the same sort of feeling as if you are trying to pull off in too low a gear, but t...

Re: Silver S2 getting of the bypass at Straiton

that would have been me - on my way to Ali's to get a couple of bits done. Did you manage to avoid the heavy rain that came down 3 minutes later ? Quickest "roof-on" I have ever done. Glad I wasn't still on bypass ?

Re: S2 Damper cups

odd responding to own post, but some late night internet searching and help from Kirk at MMT turned this up. The upper and lower spring retaining collars on the Bilstein shocks, fitted to the S2 Elise, suffer badly from corrosion. The collars can be purchased separately which saves having to buy rep...

S2 Damper cups

Can anyone help? The aluminium cups at the top and bottom of (all of) my dampers have started to crumble. But the actual dampers look fine. According to Ali there was a recent bulletin released from Lotus that stated that it was now possible to buy the cups seperate from the dampers (saving a lot of...

visit to Ali

Just spent two hours with Ali checking over my elise that I bought a couple of weeks ago. It is an early S1 with low mileage, 1 owner and massive history. Great experience. He has got his hydraulic ramp all up and working now so I was able to get under it and have a good dekko. Ali great at explaini...

AA Breakdown Insurance

I see that the AA offer breakdown insurance. For an additional £60 to your normal Relay cover, if you break down and they can't fix it roadside, then they will pay up to £500 for repair costs. Has anyone used this and is there a catch ? Seems a good deal. So if my CHG gives out, the AA will pay £500...
