Walkie Talkies

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for radio communication between say a group of cars (that maybe quite loud)?

Range doesn't need to be massive
good quality transmission would be nice
do throat mics work? is there another way to "hands free"?

Thoughts?

Run away odometer

After nipping out for my lunch today, got back in the Elise (2003 S2 111S) turned the ignition on and I noticed the odometer spinning up. It finally came to rest at about 750,000 miles, this may affect the resale value... I put the ignition off and back on and it is still reading the same value. I t...

Looked pretty cool in Aberdeen through a welding mask. Didn't get as dark as I thought it would.

Re: Lumbar bag fix

it could be the release valve, both of mine had pinged out so the bags cannot be inflated. If the bit and the spring are still in the car it seems to be a "push back into position" repair

Re: Cylinder head reconditioning recommendations?

Yeah I've got a new MLS gasket, new bolts, belts, tensioner, water pump also new oil rail and prrt.

I did limp it home so I am worried I over heated it - I'll find somewhere to test it

Re: Cylinder head reconditioning recommendations?

up and down variation in temperature concluding in it jumping right up and me stopping in rush hour traffic! coolant just kept flowing into the oil, got home and drained it. With the head off it looks to me like an obvious gasket failure (im no expert though) as there was a nice flappy bit of red co...

Re: Cylinder head reconditioning recommendations?

By recondition I was meaning things like clean, report, decoke, reseat valves and generally tidy it up. Along with checking for any warpage or softening if possible. I am aware of the implications of skimming the heat treated area of the metal but i figure a slightly skimmed face is better than a wa...

Re: Investment advice? NLC

Obviously it depends on how much we are talking but Santander are offering 3% upto £20,000 and you can have four of these accounts so upto £80,000. 3% isn't great but it's not too bad and I think fairly risk free.

(I have a history of giving bad advice ;) )

Cylinder head reconditioning recommendations?

After a head gasket failure earlier in the year I've finally got round to getting the head off. Now what I'm looking for is someone who can do all the clever stuff to recondition it. Looking on fleabay a place called redmans engines offers this kind of service, I was wondering if anyone has used the...

Re: On the scrounge - cam locking tool

You don't really need it just to remove the head IMO. Slightly confused though as you say you want to remove the cams, in which case you have no use for the tool. I have one anyway but it's in Ayrshire. Was only £4 from a local tool place. We might be talking about different things, I need to hold ...
