Re: Kindle / Touch / Paperwhite

Something to be aware of is that the touch/paperwhite versions don't have physical buttons to turn the page, so they're no good inside a freezer bag for reading in the bath.

I do most of my reading in the bath so I'm very happy with my non-touch Kindle!

Re: Leads

If it's an S1 111S then the access is from the top, coming from the passenger side. I did mine the other week and it was certainly a bit of a tight fit and I scraped my arms a lot, but it's certainly doable. Depends whether you have huge man hands or not I suppose!

It's back. New problems

I picked up the car from the garage on Tuesday night and drove home from Fife to Glasgow without any issues. On the way to work on Wednesday the misfire detection started flashing then dropped the engine into limp home mode and this repeated itself every time I tried to drive it. Thinking it might b...

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

Thanks, Robin. The garage are quoting a reasonable price for repair so I think I'm going to stick with what I have. Sounds like it's going to be full replacement of the valves and other bits and pieces. I have an interesting update though - they are now saying that the timing belt snapped because it...

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

The timing belt is confirmed as snapped so I'm just waiting for the full £££ worth of damage to decide what to do. Apparently the VVC mechanism had been leaking oil all over the belt and they think this is the probable cause of the break. Even worse, I was planning the next C service for next month ...

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

Update

Kirk who used to work at MMC took a look at it today and it has spark and it's not the immobiliser so the next guess is something compression related :(

Does anyone have a compression tester in the glasgow area and a free hour?

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

Thanks for all the help. I'm going to leave the cover and leads off for a few days then try again once it's all been cleaned up. I don't need the car next week anyway so I can afford to wait a few days before getting the professionals involved!

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

The car is parked underground in Partick so I've taken the cover off and will leave it 24 hours to see if it improves. The underside of the cover had quite a bit of condensation on it and there was standing water around the top but the actual bores and HT cables came out dry. The cables do look quit...

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

Quick update today:

It still won't start :( but it did let out a loud pop when I first turned the key before going back to cranking but never firing.

Does anyone in Glasgow want to earn some free beer to have a look at it?

Re: Won't start - name this noise (video included)

Definitely petrol in it - the stack reads 29l and I put over £20 in only yesterday.

Fuel pump is definitely whirring.

It's an S1 111S so VVC and no distributor - sorry, I should have said that in the first post.

It's back but now misfiring (Was: Won't start)

The engine died in the pouring rain today while breaking downhill. While I was able to get it pushed home there is nothing doing with regards to getting it started again. Have a listen to the noises it makes when I turn the ignition and see if you can diagnose it for me: http://sdrv.ms/15mBKMY For t...

Re: .net developers required Dundee

Is it something we said ... or are the number of developers looking for jobs in Scotland at an all time low ? We're having the same experience in Glasgow. The agencies aren't sending anything decent and the good candidates are few and far between. It's mad because we have enough work to employ two ...

Re: .net developers required Dundee

I don't see nightly builds as being universally a necessary or even worthwhile thing. We don't make them ... we have 250,000 lines of code in one project, for example, and it takes a few seconds to build. We don't check in code that won't compile and we generally review any check in that is complex...

Re: .net developers required Dundee

Kudos to you for having your Joel Test results in your job ad. Surprised you're not using CI or nightly automated builds though - that would definitely make me think twice if I were looking. Which segues neatly into the rest of this thread hijack... We're looking for .Net developers of all levels (f...

Re: All criminals caught.

Unbelievable.

A friend's plate has just been put back on after being off for about 3 months and they drove past loads of police without anything being done about it. Sorry to hear your wife got caught by the one with end of month targets still to meet :(
