I've had adjustable Spax for about 3 years now (I think). They don't really adjust any more as the adjusters seized (I failed on my regular maintenance there!) and in any case, the Spax are so primitive that there isn't really an adjustment cos they need to be pretty hard to keep up with the springs...

Campaganza - 19-20 Aug 2006

Some may already be aware, but just in case you are not. Our now customary summer jaunt "up norf" somewhere nice for a couple of days driving and jovial night(s) under canvas, is under organisation over on SE Dinosaurs. However, to help keep track of things, I'll cross-post my latest ramblings on th...

WOW.

Gordon, that is one tidy Elise. A year younger than mine, otherwise v similar spec but clearly maintained by a man who knows what he is doing!

And I thought *mine* was in good shape...full respect ;-)

Just wish I knew someone in the market, it'd be a fantastic buy.

Jings Dave, that's pretty close to our ideal motor!! If Lisa wasn't so hung up on her lovely Golf GTi TDi 150 Anniversary with sparkly wheels, I think I'd have been making an offer! Here's sample, albeit in red - Lisa's is black: http://www.carpages.co.uk/volkswagen/volkswagen_images/volkswagen_golf...

That's a pretty tidy Impreza, Gareth, however be careful. The 4-door is not as practical as you think, and if that's an STI, I have a feeling the rear seats don't even fold down. It will also cost you a bank loan to run...heavy on fuel, tyres, brakes, servicing, parts costs, you name it. Our 5-door ...

Michael, The other area to look at is the two guide runners at front and trailing edges of the glass. Don't grease them up in the trad way, you need a fluid lube eg "Back to Black" silicone based spray...fit a straw (a la WD40) to the nozzle and inject into the runners with the window lowered. Raise...

What an event, 2 days and counting - upwards of 10 Lotuses + interlopers in the car lot at any one time, just about ran out of cakes and donuts at one point! Others can comment upon the event overall, I'll just post some details for those unlucky S1 owners who ever have to replace the outer seals on...

Lawrence,

I'll plump for Tiger Seal then! Brilliant, thanks.

As for PP Primer, guess I'll wing it without it. Will get some Isopropyl cleaner today hopefully.

See you tomorrow.

Weird solvents required

One of my tasks at this weekend's Spanners is to replace the corroded and aged outer side window scraper seals. Robin kindly sent me through the relevant workshop manual page, which requires me to use: - "Betaclean 3900" to clean the door surface once the old seal is removed > identified this is a b...

Looking good for me now too. Front and rear grilles dropped off at Stu Pollock's yesterday (thanks for the directions Lawrence!) for sand-blasting and powder-coating, hope to have back in time for re-fitting on Sat. Some interesting bodges required there... Robin has cobbled together a new exhaust m...

Scott,

If you look at this site at the relevant times of day, it might give you a feel for traffic levels.

Edinburgh is one of the most car-unfriendly cities in the UK now. But not in a managed way, more a case of "we're just going to make it difficult for you but without providing strong enough alternatives". Though it is slowly getting better. Anyway, Castle Terrace Car Park (10 mins walk along to west...
