Ali - my car has got the gearbox out of it and is waiting for analysis of clutch failure followed by lengthy warranty wars with Lotus. We may have a race - who gets their car back first (or sells it first in total disgust!!). I was thinking of torching mine outside the factory with the press invited...

Re: VVC Manifold...

Gents, I am having second thoughts about the VVC manifold... I am really missing the low down torque and it sems that the VVC manifold is the prime suspect. I'm goign to swap it out for the old plastic one and see what happens.. I may have gained 20 bhp shug but only between 5500 and 6000 rpm... no...

I would strip it down myself, if you have somewhere sensible to do it. How hard can it be :-) I assume it's a push rod (i.e. not overhead cam) engine, so unless it's impossible to reach stuff I wouldn't expect dismantly and re-assembly to be a major issue. Of course that assumes you have the time - ...

Can I fit both of these?

I was thinking I would get a couple of neo magnets - the more the merrier - if I get enough I might be able to latch on to the car in front and save loads of fuel :-)

Does anyone have specific experience of replacing the crash structure ?. I'm seriously considering having this work done myself under the guise of the approved bodyshop next to my dad's place. We can do all the stripping/rebuilding ourselves. Can't be that difficult replacing the clam, radiator and...

You can get the proper bubble-wrap-alloy stuff like what they use on the S2 exhaust heat shield. This stuff is a reflector and needs an air gap between the exhaust and it as well as the bulkhead. Fd on SE made a shield out of it when he switched to the 4:1 manifold. Here's the supplier he quoted: ht...

Sounds like the same part - if you do fit it be sure to mate the wires well - the heater wires carry a fair old current and obviously it all gets pretty hot anyway given where it's fitted.

Hi I assume it drove straight with the steering wheel still central? I also assume you want to fix this through your insurers, seeing as how you've damaged a 3rd party and so have to pay anyway? I don't believe you'll get a particularly good spray job out of JM wallyford (has anyone had a really goo...

Is it any more involved than remove the old ones (!) and replace? OR do I have to take the hub to bits entirely? Nope, undo old ones and put in new ones. Hub should stay on, no need to replace bearings. BTW, I don't reckon you need to replace unless (a) you're eating wheel bearings or (b) you're do...

At any engine speed from half to full power (3,500-7,000 rpm) the engine is consuming 50-100l per second - call it 75l/s on average. Assume the engine bay is around 1,000 liters (much of which is occupied with stuff of course) then consider the following. At one extreme you could imagine a world in ...

Just got a full set of uprated 12.9 spec bolts for front and rear the huge price of £2.00 for cash at bolt stockist in Aberdeen. Different issue - in order to convert from M12 to M16 bolt kit you also need a bunch of funny shaped washers, etc. Geary charges 30GBP per wheel = 60GBP per car. You can ...

Re: Timing belt change...

Guys anyone know how much of a job this is? Would changing the tensioner be recommend as well? Cheers, Iain. Ask Rich ;) Seriously, now we know definitively how to lock the crankshaft, it's not great biggie. Might want to replace tensioner, it's only an extra minute when you're in there anyway... Y...

IIRC Fd on se did the test and persuaded his instructor/examiner that rotational steering was the way forward - I use it most of the time (push pull, or more likely spinning wheel with one hand, reserved for when I am being lazy :-)).

Never done any IAM, etc., myself...
