Kelvin Hughes, co-founder of SE and occasional poster on SE Dinosaurs, bought a Clio 172 quite some years ago for his daily commute from Carluke to South Gyle, Edin. Basically said it turned out to be one of the most fun, practical and quick cars he'd ever owned, and he also had his Elise 135 Sport ...

looks clean compared to my one in the avaitar covered with Spanish dirt!! I remember that episode with such fondness! Some of us had actually jetwashed our cars earlier that morning at Pedro's filling station (!), and we all set of from Jaca full of the joys. A wee bit up the road we encounter Spai...

Bottom line, I think a couple of weeks on full alarm setting is the most you can hope for in winter. I actually don't arm it when in the garage, and just leave it for immob to come on...rightly or wrongly, I assume that uses less "juice". However I also have a battery trickle charger which I've used...

Kenneth F Brown in Dundas Street has been my solicitor for over 10 years, nice guy, straight laced but pragmatic and good response/turnaround. My IFA is Stan Chukla (pronounced Hookla) of Alan Steel Asset Management in Linlithgow, been looking after me for about the same time, and my Dad for years b...

Pop a fresh one on but leave it hooked up to the live feed from the battery for a couple of days, that'll sort 'em ;-)

Seriously, hang onto it or put it in the Classifieds. Will probably be of higher quality than my £27 effort so don't feel too stung!!

Neil, I did hear about that ;-) Sadly Hunters in Linlithgow look like they can supply one for £27.50 (including fitting...but I declined that part!!) and rumour has it Halfrauds relieved you of quite a bit more than that for yours? My advice would be...stash yours, it will be needed soon enough! Cam...

His wonder gadget is of course that Brain The Size Of A Planet he carts around on his neck :-)

And the multimeter and coffee come in handy occasionally too!

Went as follows... Brought his multimeter. We had a coffee and a gossip. Inspected the wiring to the starter and the battery. Tested supply to the starter, was down at 10v ish, a bit low so suggests a weak battery (yet the trickle charger said was fine). Tested the voltage at the battery, also 10-11...

Well Robinz Electricz just left, having diagnosed a faulty cell in the battery!

So no need for a starter motor just yet, thankfully.

Cheers to all for valid suggestions and advice as ever.

Depending how many kerbs you hit (or anything any more solid than that...) it would be worth considering getting your geo done after the track day. If you don't feel it is significantly out of kilter, why bother doing it before. Just go and max out the day and hit every kerb without guilt. If it get...

Lawrence,

Much appreciated...way things are going, I will! We'll see what Robin has to say if he makes it out tonight. Were I not on bath duty, I'd have come to collect it just in case ;-)

cheers
