winter storage

Post by davidwilson11 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:00 pm

HI all,

Just looking for advice on winter storage of my exige s2, i am going to put it in the garage over the next couple of months. is there anything i should be doing to keep it healthy, i have no power in the garage or i woudl put a trickle feed on it.

what about moisture, battery charging / disconnection etc

The best way to store and Elise/Exige through the winter is to make sure it doesn't seize up by driving it at least once a day.

Hope this helps.

I'll take it out for a run every day if you want?

Pump the tyres up nice and hard
Crack open the window
Check antifreeze, pref change it for fresh
Change oil before driving again
Handbrake off and in gear

Thats probably about it...

Ouch, not gonna ask how

Not sure on the ramifications of leaving the batt disconnected on a 'Yota car, but it's what I'd do with my S1.

I can't really offer any sensible advice (as usual) from experience but I'd guess disconnect the battery and leave the handbrake off. Depending how dry the garage is, you could leave the windows down a crack to circulate air. That should keep damp at bay. For really, really long periods you could over-inflate the tyres or stick the car on stands to avoid flat-spotting the tyres.

Keep the tank full of petrol or you'll get corrosion at the top.

Don't leave the handbrake on or the pads'll weld themselves onto the disks

Turn your wheels to prevent them getting flat-spotted.

Have a nosey here too:-

dehumidifier won't do any harm. I've got one that I run on a timer through jan/feb.

that's only cos when I put my car away at night sometimes the rain snow drops off the underside and makes the old carpets i've got on my garage floor damp.
