Absolutely raging!

Post by jimbo » Mon May 16, 2011 8:33 pm

Came back to the flat late afternoon to discover this, with no note left and no sign of the culprit.

I went mental! It's the drivers side front wheel arch.

Having searched the previous posts i'm gonna drop a call to Castlepark Auto Body in Ellon. Anybody want to hazard a guess as to how hard this would be to sort?

Funds are super tight so hoping to hear that it won't be "that" bad...

If you can keep the car dry (cover?) I would be inclined to leave it for a short time to see whether the damage spreads a little (it usually does), but don't allow moisture ingress, so some careful covering of the area required. If you get water into the clam it will cause the layers to swell and they'll have to cut back the GRP and repair making it more expensive.

I think that should be relatively cheap. I had a substantially larger job done, including a wheel refurb and a scratch in an unrelated area for a shade under 500 at Willowbrae coachworks (top chaps, but too far away from you). I would guess a couple of 100 tops to repair that - fingers crossed I'm right!

If it is too much to afford right now, remove any loose debris, get some paint work safe tape (calling all professional polishers!); worst case use a lot of masking tape (that's always safe, if not weather proof) and tape a bit of sturdy plastic over the affected area to keep the water out until you can get it fixed properly.

Cheers,
Robin

Looking at the damage, and the mark on your tyre, are you sure the wheel has not hit the inside of the arch under cornering??

Just a thought.

Exactly what I thought as soon as I saw the pics. My Honda s1 was mega low and had chunks out both sides in the same place. The fact the damage is flaking up from underneath is same as mine was.

160 on the original suspension? Might be quite soft now for that kind of ride height.

Have a little look inside the wheel arch? if there's some scuffing it could be you've been using it properly...... there will be quite a lot of travel on an older set of koni's mine had bits knocked out it with the same sort of thing

It's not on the original koni suspension, and its definitely not from the wheel hitting it under hard cornering as it's been sat stationary for a few days (though i can see why people would think that)
