If you can keep the car dry (cover?) I would be inclined to leave it for a short time to see whether the damage spreads a little (it usually does), but don't allow moisture ingress, so some careful covering of the area required. If you get water into the clam it will cause the layers to swell and they'll have to cut back the GRP and repair making it more expensive.
I think that should be relatively cheap. I had a substantially larger job done, including a wheel refurb and a scratch in an unrelated area for a shade under 500 at Willowbrae coachworks (top chaps, but too far away from you). I would guess a couple of 100 tops to repair that - fingers crossed I'm right!
If it is too much to afford right now, remove any loose debris, get some paint work safe tape (calling all professional polishers!); worst case use a lot of masking tape (that's always safe, if not weather proof) and tape a bit of sturdy plastic over the affected area to keep the water out until you can get it fixed properly.
