That looks amazing!

Is it fine for defendall application after though/do you think it looks good enough?

I tried to order a couple of these kits. Managed to get one for the Vectra but they wrote back to say they couldn't supply a Polar Blue one for the Lotus as they never recognised the paint code. Seems to be a similar issue with quite a few Lotus colours

So I set about exploring some alternatives and found stuff called Langka (http://www.langka.com/) which basically allows you to blob on a standard touch up stick and remove the excess paint, Dr Color Chip stylie. But it's quite pricey and gets mixed reviews. Seems to be OK on light colours but if you're using a dark metallic it can lighten the colour of the blobs you've just applied.

I then found a thread (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/s ... hp?t=14590) where a guy had set about exploring an alternative solvent to remove the excess paint blob and had success with Ultrasolve, a cheap off the shelf solvent cleaner (http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... &R=1014965).

Going to order a touch up stick from MMC and give this a bash when I can get round to it. I'll post up the results :thumbsup

He says Ultrasolve is a PCB/Electrical Contact cleaner. I have a can of the Halford stuff at home, and, assuming it's on the Halfrauds can, I will compare what's in it with the post a little further down that thread.

The Halfrauds stuff is only about 4 quid a can, and i'd imagine they can't be all that different...

If the stuff looks similar, Ii'll pick up a touch up stick for either my/my girlfriends barge, and see what happens...

If it's different, i'll likely order some of that stuff from RS and do the same.

Chris

i think it would be ok, as ive said the finish isnt flawless so maybe a respray might be better if you are covering with defendall.

Didnt fancy the chance of discolourisation (is that a word?) that the defendall may have created on the light blue. Price of respray on front v price of defendall probably about the same? Hence no defendall on white Elise either. :thumbsup

Price of a respray is very reasonable if you trade the car in and don't have to pay for it :damnfunny

I take your point but I'm sure Defendall is only about £250 for the Elise and that's through MMC, probably even cheaper taking it to Newbridge yourself. I don't think a respray will come in at that kind of price.

Dr Color Chip might be the answer though :thumbsup

Hope it works out... I was more concerned about the colour differences it could make as I have seen some that make it look a bit yellowish...

Kit arrived on Friday , B21 LRG was not of the list but a quick email to them and a reply within two days confirmed they could do the kit.
Ten days later it arrived :D ,I will just have to wait for a chance to do it :( .
The front of the car has 21000mls of chips so lets see if the results are as good as the other pics.
I will do the usual before and after pics.
Cheers

i hope you get good results, darker paints seem to work better.

dont be tempted to rush when removing the excess paint, as you will probably take the paint out the chip.

it can take a while but it is worth it :D

I got the B21 LRG kit - my front has been shot blasted from road runs following folk with sticky tyres. Needless to say it was beyond Dr Colorchip but I was quite impressed with it on the normal chips around the rest of the car....... not sure if I was £60 impressed though.
