What would you recommend for faded red plastics on a motorbike?

Cheers

Thanks for the heads up.
It'll be shipped today: many thanks. :D
Arrived safely today, thanks. Hopefully the weather will warm up for a wee run and a wash.
Excellent. I can arrange delivery of products, sadly the weather is, at the moment, out of my control

Hi Mac, what type of bike is it (paint hardness varies by manufacturer a little) and will you be working by hand?

It's a Yamaha Thundercat - can work by hand or machine (done some machine polishing years ago!) I've tried a rubbing compound bit it was still faded - guessing these are painted and not just colour plastic?

Thought I would treat the cars to more than the current occasional Autoglym polish and was having a look at something like the Poorboy or Blackfire packs. Hopefully you can advise a selection to cover both the Elise and BMW which also reduces the swirls on the mystic blue BMW.
Hi Ian,

To actually remove swirls from BMW paint (which is very hard) you will need to work with a machine. It is almost a physical impossibility to correct BMW paint by hand. We do a couple of hard paint kits which include all the pads and polishes required: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat1.html and http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat1.html

After this, you will need to follow up with a wax or sealant. I'd go with Blackfire Wet Diamond, either the kit, http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat1.html or if you want to keep costs down, the sealant itself: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... ction.html

If you don't have a machine/want to get a machine, you should glaze the paint: essentially, this will 'fill' the lighter swirls in the paint and reduce or remove their appearance. Glazes have no abrasive cut. The glaze which I find offers the most fill is R222 Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleanser: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... anser.html Applied by hand via a microfibre pad and buffed off with a microfibre towel.

The glaze then needs to be 'locked in' with a sealant or wax and again, the Blackfire product will be ideal and will also suit a silver/grey Elise well. If you wanted to go with dedicated products for each car, Blackfire on the BMW, Werkstat Acrylic for the Elise: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat1.html

I'll assume these are painted, but you'll need to confirm before you proceed. If they are, the paint will probably be quite soft, and with the small motorbike panels, I'd personally work by hand. It'll be a lot easier.

Use a Light Cut hand pad: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... d-pad.html and Menzerna 203S: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -203s.html This is the most aggressive polish you can use by hand which will still finish down properly to leave a pin sharp finish. As you're working by hand, paint removal should be minimal. If you were working by machine, this combination would probably be a bit aggressive.

Follow this up with a good quality wax or sealant. Generally waxes are superior on red however Werkstat Carnauba Jett will also be ideal and it's UV inhibitors should help to prevent future fading, or at least slow it down.

If the panels are coloured plastic then I think you'll be a wee bit stuck. However, if it's gloss red, I think it'll be painted. If in doubt, take a couple of pictures and email them through to me.

'Fraid not Ally: manufacturer has an issue too so it'll be the end of February until its back. :(

Similarly priced alternative with an equally glossy finish is Raceglaze 55: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... es-55.html

It's great as a standalone but won't bond properly over Blackfire All Finish Paint Protection whereas Midnight Sun will (same polymer type).

No worries sir, Still got plenty of the rest of the kit left, just running a bit low on the wax. Could you do me a favour and let me know the wax is back in and I shall be right on the case. cheers buddy
