Advice in cleaning the Armourfend (Protective Vinyl Wrap)

Post by douglasgdmw » Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:17 pm

The Elise finally got washed at the weekend but I noticed there are a couple of yellow/red bug splats on the Armourfend (??) that I have not managed to get out.

Anyone managed to get these out or will I have to get the car re-done?

Cheers

have you tried wiping with a little petrol and then drying straight after?

Used to work well for the RLC signage :D

Not thought of that.

Will give it a try and see whether it works but I think the bug splats may well be a number of months old so they may well be ingrained into the vinyl wrap.

Cannot remember the people who do the vinyl wrap as I could always give them a bell. Also thinking of removing the vinyl as on a White Elise the edges are all black and I cannot get it off.

DMW - I've heard that's one of the problems with the armourfend type stuff. Over time, apparently the edges become more yellowy/grey depending on the type fitted and I guess that'll look quite pump over time on a white car.

Have you tried a claybar on the armorfend?

I reckon he means something like Autoglym Super Resin Polish - light abraisive for removing/filling swirls and marks. I've got a tub somewhere that you're more than welcome to borrow (also a claybar as per the above post)

:withstupid

I used an old bottle of mer to get rid of most of mine. I think one bug had reacted with the armourfend though and permanently stained it. God only knows what it had been eating for lunch that day....

thats what held the RLC together mate - all those signs! Handy for hiding exhaust burn holes as well as hiding a mini crack from an off at Cadwell :D

The Atom has armourfend
