Just had a corection detail done by Dave McLean. He's one of the most respected guys on detailing world (Dave KG), and Renmure has used him to do his Ferarri, CLK and maybe others too.

Reasonable rates (a quarter of Polished Bliss!) as he's not a business, just an enthusiast. He'll come to you or can do it in Dundee.

Thread about my car is here.

I can PM you his phone number if you want?

Is your car really that bad that it needs a proper detailer to do it. I have found meguiars products to be a big help. Wash the car give it a good clay bar to remove the contaminents in paintwork i.e. tar, tree sap etc. Never used clay bar but heard its a very good product. What I can swear by is the meguiars 3 step process. Step one is a paint cleaner which helps remove swirls, scratches and contaminents. Step two is your polish, and step 3 is carbuba wax to put your protective seal on it. Cost is about £30 for the set delivered to your door and I have had mine for about 2 years and just about to run out. If you do this then every few weeks just bung a coat of meguiars tech wax it protects the work you have done. If you can be bothered this will definately improve the paintwork of your car somewhat and may safe you some money in long run, does take patience though and mabye 4-5 hours of time. Can be quite relaxing with a cold beer on a sunny day I find. Anyways thought I would throw that in the equation incase you where interested as I know a decent detailer can charge £150-£200 upwards for a good detail.

I have found http://www.performancemotorcare.com/aca ... uiars.html to be cheap for the stuff.

Deal on the now £24 for the 3 step.

Oh well, guess you don't need me to give you his number then!?

What sort of thing are you after that Dave can't do then?

Scott- you've obviously never seen a car that has had a correction detail. The Megs 3stage kit (and others like it) is great and you can do a really good job with it- but when you see a completely swirl free finish achived with a machine polisher and some skill, you'll never give your car a quick wipe with an old t-shirt and be happy with it again!

Yes I have, the car is usually brought back to better than it was since it came out factory. I remember reading a post that a guy bought an astra VXr and straight from the factory was detailed. They used a paint measurement tool to measure the paint depth in microns. Obviously if you spray a car its probably impossible to get the paint the same thickness all way round. The guy spent many hours correctly the depth to the same level to achieve maximum shine. I was just putting another spin on it with my comment. Meguiars 3 step is a £25 kit where as a detail is £150-200 so obviously the results will vary.

I was not by any way critising the skills of these people it takes a lot of practice to become comfortable with these machines as you can do as much damage as good with them hence why a lot of proper detailers have insurance. The results where used correctly are astounding. I myself would love a proper detail but just cannot justify the £150-200 right now as if I had that I would get the AA cover and a few other things higher on the priority list.

Main reason for posting was a cheaper alternative to think about, although not close to the standards of a proper detail will make a good improvement to your car for £25 and a bit of effort :thumbsup

Fair play mate, was just pointing out that the finish achieved by hand is vastly inferior to that which can be achieved by someone with a machine and lots of skill :thumbsup

The guy with the VXR is taking it to extremes though!

By the way, £150-£200 is super cheap for a detail ( a full correction one anyway). The likes of PB or other large companies with great reputations charge in the region of £600-£1000 depending on condition and size of car! (or so I am told anyway  )

When you think that they normally spend 36+ man hours on a car and take into account the cost of materials and premesis, it isn't that bad, although I could never justify it.

Mine worked out at less than £10 per man hour, not including materials or travelling costs for them.

Yeah ofcourse it is pretty cheap. I mean some of the the products are about 5 grand a pop, so I have heard for zymol waxes etc. Also the work load is pretty intense with 12 hours a day buffering away and its high risk. Guys doing porches etc could totally ruin the paintwork so your paying for insurance etc. Totally agree its amazing results but still until my company decide to give me a vast pay increase I am stuck with my 3 step meguiars haha! :D
