"Claying" your paintwork - VERDICT

Post by Sanjøy » Thu Apr 06, 2006 10:00 am

Okay so I bought the clay at Halfrauds (£11) as was seizing the moment, if I planned it better I would have bought form Polished bliss.

Read the following guide and set about it. http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... clean.html

Bottom line is you clean the car and then feel the paint. Claying the car returns the paint to glass like finish and removes all the tar wax and sh*t that get on it.

Drivers door 1/4 of the rear and 1/2 the front took about 2 hours and does it work ?

Yes. Best analogy would be if you dropped a piece of silk on the paint prior it would stick now it would just float off.

Paint is glassy, and by looking at the clay as you work you see the stuff that is coming out and off of the paint. Most noticeable is under the sills and the front of the car.

It is not going to remove scratches or swirls but preps the car for waxing. I believe that "polishing" not waxing will remove the scratches and swirls but to be honest it looks like you need a machine polisher and an expert.

Pics to follow.

Thats the stuff I bought. Polished bliss reccomned putting it in hot water first, do so as makes it much easier and pliable.

The claying does take ages but is genial!

I was very impressed with it, although my X wasn't (as i spent ages in the garage creating car jealousy!)

The last time I did the full 3 stage Meguires polish was about 8 months ago, as long as I still dry the car with a shami it comes up looking like glass! ok it's worn off the bottom third of the car with all the winter mud etc but can't recommend it enough. I don't think the 'clay' is part of the '3-stage' treatment but apparently Meguires do a version.

If there's one thing thse yanks know about it's makin those muscle cars look shiney :D *dreams of the General Lee* :love :love

I actually prefer(ed) Miss legs America Catherine Bach over Jessica Simpson, and the car over both of them... but not over both of them at the same time :-)

Well gave her a quick wash post Rannoch and applied some cheap wax. Difference is amazing, easily the best she has ever looks and glass like finish to the touch. V. Impressed.

Will do, did the Rav too and it came up well and just need "light dusting" to shift teh dirt. I would imagine that jetwash woudl be beter to stop scratchign.

Water droplets that form on the car are HUGE now rather than just being wet. Couple with Rainx cars Cd must be reduced :D
