How to remove paint?
How to remove paint?
Quick story is...
Neighbour painted his fence.
Wind carried paint and I now have tiny specs of paint on the car.
Tried claying - not helping.
It is waterbased paint.
TIA

If you like the colour, then get it re-sprayed.

Pressure washer (if it's water based)?
Lend car to McApe for a weekend? Definitely won't have asich paint on it when you get it back - might not be the right paint that comes off.

I'd use white spirit is small areas, rub gently.
Id then send them the bill for a full machine polish to get it back to new.

Don't touch it!
Speak with your neighbour and advise him that you are about to get your tame detailer to provide a quote to machine polish the damage
He can claim the cost back from his own insurance

Re: How to remove paint?
He's been a good neighbour for 6 years so don't want to fall out with him.
He did tell me to move the car which I did but the wind carried it a fair distance.
I'll get my Glasgow car cleaner to have a go.

I used a clay bar which removed most eventually, used Tardis for the really stubborn bits (seemed to loosen rather than remove but the best thing ever for tar removal) then re-clayed the big spots.
Took ages, also Tardis destroys the meguiars clay bar i used into a sticky mush smeared over the bodywork so you have to remove all traces of Tardis before reclaying.
Or as hinted if you don't have time but the money give to a car polisher company
Know how you feel, cars (2 of them ) were parked over 30 feet from the painting but still had tons of spots on both.

Aye get Steven on it, although he is fully booked in ABZ this month. E-mail him and see what he recommends though...Gareth wrote: I'll get my Glasgow car cleaner to have a go.

Re: How to remove paint?
I bought an xtrail that had exactly the same issue all down one side. It took a full day but I did manage to get it off with a wee sponge and a lot of scrubbing. It took a full day to do the one side. I'd think a pro with a machine would manage much quicker.
Re: How to remove paint?
I used a scouring pad to remove stubborn stains last time I cleaned a car ... worked a treat ... though it may have left some minor marks in the paintwork, you couldn't see them from the driver's seat

Re: How to remove paint?
That's a lot for a machine polish, I know everyone goes to a detailer for this, as the name suggests their attention to detail is what you're paying for but any decent bodyshop would have done this for less than half that! Had Andy's GT-R done in Edinburgh for £80 or so and it turned out fantastic, couldn't fault the finish, took out a load of surface scratches and paint blemishes, car looked factory fresh!Gareth wrote:Machine polish worked.
