Ok next up, is car shampoo any better or worse than washing up liquid, or is it marketing again?
I think the theory is that it wont adversely affect the paintwork however, because washing up liquid is heavy on the degreasing sides of things any expensive waxes or coatings that you may have put on your car will be stripped off it. I beleive that car shampoo's are more caring towards any coatings that may have been applied.

Although again that may all be good marketing!

I was told washing up liquid also contains salt(s). Bad idea. Not used since I washed parents' cars age 10 when I didn't know any better

Given the dilution rates I doubt ant salts etc will be that harmful.
I'd also think if coatings can be stripped off that easily then they are probably not that great.
Lets discuss further.

Agreed.
Why would you bother, it’s not like actual car shampoo costs a fortune.

I use washing up liquid to wash the car before I put on a fresh coat of wax.
It’s very obvious how good it is at stripping off the old protection, the water doesn’t bead at all after you’ve used it.

Is there not stuff in the washing up liquid that makes your hands soft, and crockery feel smooth which will give you a smeary windscreen?
