Soft-top refurb

Hi all,
I've seen a couple of posts on here about a £40 soft top refurb service where apparently you drop off your soft top at the dealer, and get it back a few weeks later re-stitched, plastic strip and elastic bits replaced.

Just phoned MMC to get some details and spoke to Bill. He didn't seem to be aware of any general refurb service, doubted there would be any kind of repair etc for as low as £40 and instead spoke of sending it off, getting a quote for repairs before any work was done to it. Even mentioned that a new soft top is £650!

There is nothing really wrong with my soft top except the snapped plastic strip and some dodgy stitching along that strip, so this refurb service, if it actually exists, would be ideal.

Can anyone who has had it done, tell me how you went about it and who you spoke to etc.

Cheers,
D

Thanks! Had seen that thread before, but never noticed it mentioned who he contacted. So it's Graham or Pauline I need to speak to then.

Cheers,

Best to speak to the factory direct.

If you look at their website you'll find contact details for the trimshop folk.

MMC are just a "courier" service.

Yeah got it sorted via Pauline and Graeme @ MMC. As the above was £40 inc P&P. Might be worth asking the chap in the Service dept ot speak to Graeme who is aware.

Funny how the salesman and not the servicing manger know about this.......

Typical story from this sh*t company.

I have formed the impression over the years that, where feasible, direct relationship with the Lotus factory yields almost amazing results. I have some personal experience of this when tracking down a couple of rare parts.

They have their own service dept, who clearly know their stuff (!) and I don't believe charge much more (or even as much) as some franchised dealers.

They have their trimshop, who clearly refurb soft tops for buttons, and also do custom trim work I believe.

They have their own track, which you can use on organised track days and sprints.

They offer factory tours by v knowledgeable guides.

What other manufacturer offers that sort of stuff, unless you get into the realms of Porsche or Merc money?

I'm with Campbell on this one - speak to the factory. I've been doing this for abouut 18 months now and it's amazing the information and service you get from the guys down there.

I used MMC as a courier service with stuff being dropped off or collected there as required. When I bought the OZ's & 48's I dealt with the factory got the part number and price and then forwarded it on to John for ordering - they were here on the next Thursday run. Same for the ARB I've got fitted. I've always said that should she be involved in a prang I would trailer the car down to hethel for the work to be done, same goes for any major mechanical issues.
