no claims bonus

Post by phraze » Wed Oct 03, 2007 2:49 pm

ok I'm confused...can someone explain?
I have had car now for 5 years. I've never claimed and so have 5 years no claims which is what I am saying when insurance companies ask me for insuring our new elise.
I phoned the company that insures our other car to see what quote they'd give me and they said something like are you using that other no-claims against the Elise? I said yes and so they asked if I was cancelling the other policy and traferring the no-claims...eh wtf? Surely no-claims is counted for a person and not a car? Surely my no-claims mean that I have not have a claim and so I can use it when insuring two cars? No? Am I wrong? What's gong on here?

Its no claims on a policy basis, not a person basis. Its just the way it works, which is  for us.

Some companies can mirror no claims, working on the (sensible) basis that you cant drive two cars at once.

admiral multicar ? I had the same problem I had full NCB on my clio and couldn't use it on the elise unless I cancelled the clio's policy, if you insure more than 1 car with an insurance company they will probably mirror it. but elise and clio on multicar was basically clio for free

Heritage will mirror you no claims, they will also add years for:

Membership of a club (Like Scottish Elises)
Driving instruction (I did a KH Hy-Performance Course)
Owning the car for a year or more.

Also they don't care about most mods, but declere the any way..

There is an age limit 28 or more IIRC.

Good Luck

Ummm... I suppose I ment above that A-plan would mirror the NCD with the 2nd car as long as they insured the 1st car too. I dont think any company would mirror the NCD of a policy with a different insurer.

Bell Direct is the internet site for Admiral, andI have usually found them to be a bit cheaper. I have had great customer care from them. They also give you discount (10% I think) for paying by credit card. After the initial policy purchase in line, I have always delt with them by phone

As an aside; Louise & I have three cars between us, two insured on multicar for me. When renewing my policy they ask if I want to pay extra for a courtesy car :? .... I'll already have a 'spare' car!

On the flip side Bell Direct were a bunch of useless muppets when I had my bump in Feb.

After sorting it all out myself and getting an admission of liability of of the other party's insurer myself (I even had to send my claim form direct to his insurer as Bell failed to do so) they phoned me 4 months later to tell me that they had some good news for me... I know, I told you 3 months ago :x

I second the thumbs down for Bell Direct - third party who ran into me last year was with them -THEY WERE TOTALLY AND UTTERLY USELESS AT DEALING WITH THE CLAIM.
Documentation was 'lost' 13 times and as per richardhumble experience above I did all the leg work of getting 3rd party admission of fault after they said that he didn't have a policy with them !!
