AA Breakdown Insurance
AA Breakdown Insurance
I see that the AA offer breakdown insurance. For an additional £60 to your normal Relay cover, if you break down and they can't fix it roadside, then they will pay up to £500 for repair costs.
Has anyone used this and is there a catch ? Seems a good deal. So if my CHG gives out, the AA will pay £500 towards costs of fixing ? And you seem to be able to claim 5 times in any year....
Interested to hear anyone's experience of this.

Re: AA Breakdown Insurance
I've got it on my policy, haven't had to use it yet

Re: AA Breakdown Insurance
id say 70% of us S1 drivers have it (parts and labour).
Ive not used it yet, but I know Tut and a few others have had success with it! Tut actually knows more about it than most of the AA probably!

Has worked well for more than a few at Donny this weekend!
Worth it, and they now offer it for any vehicle, albeit more expensive for those with car over the 10+ year mark!

Re: AA Breakdown Insurance
There are no catches to it, it covers virtually any mechanical fault, but not wearage, ie a physical clutch failure is covered but not platewear. HGF no probs.
Provisos are that you have to call out the AA from the road, not home, when you breakdown, and you car has to be transported to an MOT garage, which means you can chose your own if you have Relay as well.

Re: AA Breakdown Insurance
The policy does have to be active for four week before you claim on it to try and stop you buying the product after you've broken down

Says it needs to be VAT registered, doesn't mention MOT...tut wrote:There are no catches to it, it covers virtually any mechanical fault, but not wearage, ie a physical clutch failure is covered but not platewear. HGF no probs.

Re: AA Breakdown Insurance
Yup i've just signed up for it but as Tut says you really need to call them out in the first place, so it helps if you have the full bhuna AA recovery (ie home as well) so that you don't have to push your car 1/4 mile away from you house as / when it doesn't start
One rumour doing the rounds of SE was that your servicing had to be done by a VAT registered garage - i can see no mention of this in the T&C's............it merely states that you need to have your car serviced by a garage with premises and that it can't be a family friend / yourself etc etc. In theory they could ask for invoices / reciepts for work done but AFAIK this isn't always the case. Good news for those (like me) who have a good mechanic they trust who isn't VAT registered
The VAT bit only applies to the garage that fixes the car when it goes bang.
Hope this is clear

Re: AA Breakdown Insurance
I got a new alternator fitted this week to the tune of £320. Got to love this £25 excess business
Best £60 I've spent this year.
