Greenlight Insurance . . . wow!

My insurance is due for renewal at the beginning of June, so thought I'd be prepared and start shopping around. Tried a few of the usual suspects and they vary from around £1k to £2k!!!

I actually laughed out loud at the girl on the phone from Aon (Lotus) when she quoted me £2k!

I was just over £1k last year due mainly to age, driving experience (was a late starter!), not much no claims discount and I guess just the type of car. Was with Admiral. Have added induction/exhaust mods to the car, which obviously brings it up a bit, but would be happy if I could get something between £900 and £1k given my circumstances.

However, I tried Greenlight Insurance and they quoted me £797.75! Fantastic! They are just a broker and it's with a company called Highway Insurance. All the usual stuff included and they can also do trackdays at any track in UK (club or non-club events) for £50 per event. Was hoping to get a policy that includes trackdays, but even if I do, say 3 or 4 days, the overall cost over the year still doesn't reach what most insurers want to charge me for road-only policies.

Am I missing something? Anyone got any experience of them? Everything in their policy seems in order. Highly recommended if you're looking for a cheap quote!

BTW, this is based on:

Business Class 1 (so I can travel to clients' offices, etc)
Average 12,000 miles per year, but no actual limit on mileage
27 yrs old
2 yrs no claims
IAM test pass
Kept on driveway at reasonably nice postcode
No claims/convictions

They also asked if I was a member of a club or forum. I obviously mentioned SE but explained that it was just a forum and not a club. I think it somehow gets you a discount too?

Oh, and this is mod-friendly - i.e. they actually replace modified parts with the same modified parts and not the standard parts that most insurers provide.

I know of Greenlight through the CTR forum, they offer a 10% discount on there plus the same 50 quid trackday deals. Feedback is very positive although the told me they couldn't quote for my car

I got a quote for trackdays from MORIS recently... link from trackdays.co.uk. I asked for a quote for 3 days, but they provided a quote for just 1.

£240 !!! with a £1700 excess. It would need to be a new front and rear clam for me to have thought that was worth while. Needless to say I'm giving it a miss and will also be looking to get cover next year with it all included (CCI, Heritage etc..). Probably only be doing about 3 this year so will just wing it.

I'll bare this Greenlight broker in mind though.. nice one Dezzy.

Seloc and Lot counts as clubs and seloc is only £12 to join so might well be worth it!

I used MORIS for my Teeside trackday cover and it was pretty expensive, but worth it for the peace of mind. But £50 per trackday with Greenlight is great. Plus, MORIS excess was £2500, while Greenlight just double your road excess (£550 in my case) for the track. Still looking into road and trackday cover with CCI, so will see if they can do as good a deal as Greenlight.

I tried Heritage, but too young.

You have to be 28 and they have no flexibility on that.

Just gone with this Greenlight mob - £677 (£300 excess all round) and no claims protected (for this first time in my insurance lifetime.)

Sainsbury's were cheaper at £650, but that was with a £350 excess on top of their standard excesses.

Biggest stumbling block to me getting a lower price (32, 9yrs no claims, 1 no fault acc, 1 sp50) is that it's parked on the street - no plans to move house, so guess I'm stuck with it.

Didn't get much joy with the usual suspects mentioned on here (AON, A Plan, etc.) and renewal from Flux was slightly higher than last years price @825.

Oooooh . . . didn't know they were playing. Will check it out. I usually wouldn't miss a Spiritualized gig, but I've seen them to the Acoustit Mainline thing twice now, so won't be too fussed if I miss it. Depends on date/cost. Cheers for letting me know!
