Good maths there with the date. If that person is 17, then I am 14.

My car was insured at an A Band 1 postcode according to upmystreet smartypants

I bought a 6yr old MkII Astra GTE when I passed my test at 17 (16 yrs ago  ) Only wanted it coz it had a cool digital speedo and it could keep up with my mates Scirroco... lol

Cost me £1500 to buy and £1000 TP only to insure. £1000 16yrs ago was a fair bit for me. I was getting quotes back then of £2500 TP only for XR2's and £3500 for a Renault 5 GT Turbo when I could buy the cars for £2K... so, a £12K Elise for £5.5K fully comp probably isn't too bad in comparison !!

well my mini coop s was brand new sept 05 plate when i passed at 17 and that was only 1700 full comp... had a red S2 after when i was 18 and and that was pushing the 3k mark for TPFT.. eventually sold it after 6 months because i couldnt justify the insurance but love my new one so much im just trying not to think about it!

oh and i paid 16.5k for the one i have not 12k  (dealer prices and got a lot of things chucked in..)

Being a bit of an expert on car insurance for 17 year olds, Clare and now Ian, even for the lowest groups, ie a 1.1L Corsa or similar, will not be less than £850 for a girl and £1,500 for a boy, and that is in Old Deer which is a low Premium area.

It also makes very little difference if it is TP or fully Comp, or even a banger, those are about the lowest figures.

They purely base it on risk factor, which means they could be paying out large sums to third parties, and not just the insured driver.

First couple of cars I had were in my Dad's name which made it slightly cheaper - at least now you can get NCB while being a named driver!
