Great Quote From Admiral

Just had my renewal quote from AON (Lotus Esteem Policy with Royal & Sun Alliance). Came in at £555 (for me and the girlfriend) which was a bit higher than last year (although the car has been replaced with a new one since then).
Thought I'd shop around but wasn't too hopeful. Tried Admiral online and was quoted £310 - bargain!
The car's kept on driveway, postcode EH10 and does less than 5000 miles pa.

Cheers... ours is due for renewal in exactly 1 month so this has prompted me to start looking.

I've just got a quote from Admiral coming in at £458.60 with 9yrs protected NCB. 5k miles/pa, garaged. Inc Personal Injury and business use for the wife & I. I can't get the Elephant online thing to work but I think they are the same as Admiral.

Just phoned Heritage who basically didn't even quote "We won't be able to beat that... goodbye". I didn't even manage to get the words out that I was interested in their policy which included track day cover :rage

Waiting on some dude from CCI to call me back, need to chase the renewal from A-Plan to see what they are looking at... I'm sure Dezzy posted about a company 'Green.... something' that did track day stuff included but can't seem to find it right now.

Oh, I'd better try Chris Knott as well.

Greenlight. Trackday wasn't included, but I think they cover on an event basis @ £50.

However, since Dezzy's accident, they've said they won't cover Elises any more!

Cheers Scott... I'll score that one off then. Chris Knott has just gone £25 cheaper than admiral and are happy with the mods.

A-Plan say the renewal figure from them won't arrive for another week or so... So I'm armed with reference numbers now

"We no longer quote Lotus Elise models due to our bad claims expereince on this vehicle."

They can't even spell porplery

You may also find even though you have said 5000 miles it is an unlimited policy :D

I paid more than that last year . There was me thinking they would up the prices due to a few dings they had to pay for .

Just got the docs through the post. Although the schedule says estimated mileage of 5,000, there is no mention of the policy being restricted to this. It's unlikely that I'd exceed it (in reality 4,000 is probably closer to the mark).

Another pleasant surprise - it also covers me to drive other cars (3rd party only) which I didn't have before. Could come in handy as the lotus is my only car. :)

Why didn't I shop around more last year? :?

I done LOADS of reading about this cover, and peoples experiences claiming/being pulled over with it and basically:

You are covered to drive other peoples cars (ie not registered in yuor name)
The car must not be in regular use by yourself
(they seem to identify 'regular use' by it being parked at your residence)
The car would have to be insured by someone else too.
-there was a bit of a split on this. Some people had been done with driving an uninsured car, some not. Basically, from what i read, if the car is on a road, it is being driven. A car usable must be insured to be parked on a public highway.
Stopping at traffic lights has been ruled by 1 judge to be 'parked on a public highway'
A car with no wheels (but nothing else wrong with it) was deemed usable, so you can't just remove the wheels.

My final decision for my case was:
I drive my girlfriends mx on occassion, and that's the only cover I have on it.
I drive her mums Audi A4 everyday and keep it at my house, so I made sure i was added as a named driver on her mums policy.
I drive friends cars on occassion with this cover (useful on nights out as I don't drink too much, so I can play Taxi driver)

Sorry for being deep and meaningful on something you may never use!

Sorry, you can't generalise on insurance contracts - each will turn on its own policy wording. If in any doubt, ask the Insurance company what you are and (more importantly) are not entitled to do on your policy.

I always though you had to let them know what you where driving before you drove it
