Big introductory discounts - any ideas?

I'm trying to work out the best way to insure two cars - tried Admiral under the 2 car 1 driver policy and they weren't too bad - but hope I can do better.

I've got full NCB on a Group 20 car already. Any ideas who would allow me to use my entitlement on two cars (ie give me full NCB on a second policy) or not as good but still worth thinking about, who would give me a big starter discount on a new policy?

Appreciate any help - on the brink of buying a 111R and a newbie to the forum - read lots of good stuff already

A-Plan insurance should mirror your existing NCD on a new policy. They are also easy to speak to and dont just do the "Computer says No" type of insurance quote. tel 01635 874646

I was in exactly the same position as this when I bought my Elise last November. A plan are unlikely to be interested. They were rather unhelpful with me actually, and told me to come back when I had owned the Elise for 1 year.

What I did in the end was transfer my existing car policy to Admiral. Whilst I was arranging this I asked them to quote me for the Elise at the same time, and asked if they would mirror my NCB on the Elise policy. Not something they advertise but the guy was happy to do this to get the business.

So I now have 2 policies with Admiral, both with max NCB. Both at very competitive prices and I now have the option to move one or both of the policies when they expire to another insurer with full NCB on both cars.

A wee bit hassle to sort out but it saved me a shed load of money doing it this way. Oh and I should also add that this worked out cheaper than taking the Admiral multi-car policy.

Thanks for your advice. I've called A Plan (spoke to Chris) and he was helpful - guess it depends on who you get. Quote okay/good but I'll try seperate quotes/policies from Admiral.

Tried my own insurer, *** (THE COMPANY I WORK FOR!!!!), and they said they couldn't insure me as I don't have 2 years no claims, despite insuring a Group 20 car with them with max ncb. Bonkers or what?

Glad you had something positive with A-Plan. They have always come up trumps for me and, in addition to being very competitive, have actually been fairly easy to deal with and keen to do a deal.

Latest is seperate quotes from Admiral. £257 for a Group 20 Audi. Unbelievably good. Elise is £334 using my NCB - just need to phone them and see if they will give me the discount on both cars - if they do they get my business.

I must be really old. I used to think £800 was good for Group 15/16 cars I had years ago (and I'm too ashamed to own up to what they were!)

Group 15/16... Comments about being younger... I'm guessing something japanese tuner spec, maybe imported... One of those Nissan Sunnys that have a turbo and GT-R Pulsar or something on them? now come on, is it as embarrasing as that?

Admiral were the lowest by far for me with my Elise (only 1 car mind) and they've ben talked about by others, so it seems they are the Elise friendly insurer of the moment.

Lets say you have 5year NCD and have 2 cars, and a company mirrors it for you. Can you then go to 2 different companies and declare 5 years NCD the following year? and so it's possible to have 2 cars with 5 (well, 6 I suppose) years no claims in only 6 years?!

Yes. But only if you get 2 separate policies with mirrored NCB. As I understand it, you can't do this with their 2 car policy.

Cars in the past - Mk1 to Mk IV versions of Golf GTis, 205 GTis, RS2000s (when they were new so that really ages me) and when the family appeared - SAAB Turbos. The second one from Bell & Colvill and monstrous overboost. Rubbish brakes and handling but still one of the quickest straight line cars I've had. Or at least that is how I remember it.

Gone with Admiral in the end. £247 for the Audi and £353 for the Elise. Dropping the voluntary excess made little difference to the cost and putting the missus on both took £50 of each. What is crazy is keeping the Audi on the drive not in the garage DROPPED the cost by £19.
