3rd car insurance?

Post by Victor Meldrew » Thu Sep 11, 2008 11:02 pm

Ok.. I have the Elise in my name.. full protected no claims..
Lesley has the S4 in her name.. full protected no claims...

Both through Aon.. both with Zurik insurance (I think)

What would be the best way to get a third car insured...

Start a new policy from scratch ..?
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Refused point blank to do it for me last year. I must have phoned on a bad day I think, they were generally rude/useless/unhelpful/not interested.

I couldnt find anyone to mirror my NCB - i had to take a new policy out on the panda as even the multicar policies were very very expensive !
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

They definitely did it for me last year when I got the Merc. They mirrored 6 years NCD from the elise. At renewal time in July for the Merc they sent me out confirmation of 7 years NCD :) I have always found them helpful but it does depend on who you end up speaking to I guess. :?

*possible stupid question*

So, all this mirrored no claims business... can you then go elsewhere after a year with your no claims?

I'm with Admiral, separate policies for my Elise and Punto, i didn't even ask them to mirror my NCB but the woman suggested it to me! 5 years declared on both cars :)

Hmm...

Possible stupid question from me... But, can you not only have your NCB on one car??? I've heard of someone who claimed it on two policies, had an accident and it ended up invalid...

Unless you have a multicar policy obviously.....!!

My experience (currently 8 cars all insured individually) is that it is possible to "accumulate" separate NCD bonus after getting policies mirrored. If you have car A and insure it with 5yrs NCD then add car B 6 months later and get your NCD mirrored then you will get a renewal for car A after 12 months with 6 yrs NCD showing. 6 months later you will get a renewal for car B and some insurers will show this as having 6yrs NCD and some showing 2yrs NCD.

The thing that confuses things is that some places quote less for starting a new policy with car B than they would by mirroring the NCD of car A.

When you start introducing car C,D,E, F,G, H it gets a bit fuggly .. but Wendy has made a spreadsheet :)

Cool, I didn't know it could work like that.

Just remember my dad point blank refusing to go on my insurance after the insurance company said he would have to transfer his NCB to mine to benefit, costing him more
