How is your postcode?

I mentioned this to tut last saturday at KH,

i found this table on a few of the bike forums i'm on, it is a table that gives your postcode a rating from A (very good) to F (very bad) to "refer" meaning really crap, we will give you what ever insurance price we want.

http://www.insurancequotes.org.uk/quote ... urhood.php

pity where i live is a "refer" but thats probably down to the fact i have had carjacking at gun point, and drive by shootings around my area.

You sure that's accurate?

My current postcode is "refer", which is fair enough but I didn't think it was that bad (although I have a surprisingly good quote if that is true). However, my parents postcode is E, which is a lot of nonsense as they stay in a really nice area with very low crime/etc. :?

Not sure if its fully accurate, came across it when browsing the bike forum.

Seems accurate with an A for me as my premium for N3 would have been £260 this time, but they have a minimum of £300.

KA4 = B for me which seems about right as my insurance has been relatively good well as good as can be for my age

Suggests my area is average (c); probably true, but the indian territory next door is better (b) :scratch

I don't think it's accurate enough - I live in G72 which covers a huge area. My premium dropped when I moved from my folks house to my current house - both G72 but one was G72 7 and the other G72 9

Yep, that's what I was thinking Mac. Some postcodes can take in a dodgy area* and a nice area and I'm sure they narrow it down more than the first half of the postcode, as you suggest.

No real surprise for me

....however my old flat in Shawlands would also be "refer" which seems a bit strange. As others have said postcode sector is probably how it's done in the real world - but it's a good indicator

Yes - Kelvinside G12 is an "E" because, although it is ,of course, an exquisite place to live, it's surrounded by dodgy areas!
